Yes, Nintendo owns the content, but it's a free way of advertising in my eyes. A lot of people who do LPs of games aren't going to be making LPs of those games, and some might even stop buying Nintendo games altogether. What's next for Nintendo, going after people on Twitch or Ustream?

Nintendo isn't removing their content or telling them they can't upload these videos.  They are just putting their ads on them.

They are also causing them to have no monetization on the videos. That is a major problem for many youtubers who do need the money to help stay afloat. some youtubers have youtube as their only job. The long term problem is that these LPers will just refuse to play Nintendo games on their channel.

So far, the games that have been content IDed include New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda Windwaker and mario Kart 7. All these titles have released in the last couple years or are soon to and are prominent titles.

Let's be honest, though.  Using LP's as your main form of monetization is pretty sad and lazy.  Also, one of the earlier posts seem to indicate that they aren't really taking the revenue from the ads, but just putting their own there.  More info is needed, though.

And that's why you stream on Twitch instead.

"Not buying content"

wat lol

Boycott a company because they want to profit off their games? Yeah, that's mature.

Btw. is there any big LP channel which does only do LP's of Nintendo games? Nintendo releases so few first-party games compared to the mass of PS3/Xbox360 1st/3rd-party games that I doubt these people will lose much money anyways.

Same as with every boycott, in the end no one will remember it because no one really has given a fuck. Even if the big boys will boycott Nintendo, there are so much more Let's Players who are not big enough to make money off it and thus will not be affected.

Taking Revenue from Ads...putting their own....its the same thing o.O. Partner and uploader get nothing - all proceeds go to Nintendo which is what a lot people are angry about.

This could be something that I could take advantage of...too bad I cant record 3DS games or a Wii-U games.

Is it really?  Well, either way it is their stuff.  It may not seem fair, but honestly I think expecting to get paid to record yourself beat a game and upload it is kind of lazy anyway.  Anyone who can play/beat a game can do a LP.

One thing I'm not sure about though. Youtube didn't always have monetizing right, now it seems like a lot of people are trying to be a youtube celebrity?

Even though there are people that do it for revenue will quit. I'm sure there will still be plenty of people that do it for fun which is what I'd think nintendo would consider. If I remember that's what youtube originally was.

I think it's a grey area. I understand both sides, I do think it would have been nice for nintendo to notify the users though so they could adjust their channels if they were relying on the revenue from it. But, that likely wouldn't have made the controversy any less.

When a video has Content ID on it, monetization of the video is disabled so the uploader gains no more money from that video regardless of who puts the claim on. I believe it can be taken off but it is a complicated process that takes time.

Boycotting a gaming product period is pointless because anyone who does boycott a gaming product will more than likely be counted as a horrible minority.

I think ChuggaConroy or w/e his name is a major nintendo LPer though not sure. Most of the channels I visit are usually multiplatform. Nintendo games especially like Pokemon make a lot of revenue since most of them are usually online battles (at least the big ones).

So far the only Nintendo content that has been affected mostly is anything that deals with Mario or Luigi.

The guy who made that video says he wont make any more videos...I dont know about him but I see this as a great time to take advantage and get smaller and less known youtubers to get more views on their videos ;p.

one of my favorites^^

good for nintendo, i support them

WII U // PC // 3ds XL // VITA

Here we go, Nintendo trying to monopolize everything yet again!
Didn't they learn from their past mistakes before?
I also find iit pathetic that a billion dollar company refuses to let the little guy get a few measly cents for themselves
So fucking Greedy

Seems weird for something that Nintendo would spend their time on. Maybe some companies can tag LPs of 15 year old+ games and make money off them! Like FFVII LP and SE makes profit next Q only by FFVII lol.
