If people keep buying sequels, then that's what there going to make. It all comes down to money. I think more new Ips come at the start of the generation, because more people are willing to accept them. there just happy to have something to play, then it builds from there.

Anyone who is saying yes is objectively, and factually out of touch with the industry.
This is 100% the most original generation of gaming when you look at the overall titles available.
You cannot make a larger list of games to surpass what's been released this gen.

(and the second best would likely be last gen)

In fact, I'd go so far to say that every gen is objectively more creative than the gen before it.

isn't there a bit of everything out there if you want it,same as it ever was and will be

Yes, but pretty much everything has lost its originality: videogames, movies, music.  Everything has been done before, there may be little tweaks to each new installment but they are all essentially the same.

You should play Braid

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

It's just a shame some of the games that should've of gotten more sequels but didn't aren't here. Games like Jak, Road Rash and Timesplitters should get HD releases

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

With the PS360 gaming became mainstream. It was suddenly cool to game and that lurred alot of non-gamers. Now those non-gamers (opportunists if you want) outnumber real gamers and that shows in sales and therefore changes the development process of games to appeal to the masses.

In 10 years most of the non-gamers will stop playing games and the real games that played games for the last 20 years will hopefully be the group devs target again.

There's only one NSMB game per console and they all look the exact same. They don't all play the exact same - key difference.

Firstly, it doesnt matter how many there is per console.

The post from Mr Khan than I quoted talked about how each game from a franchise was hard to compare to the previous. From "Metroid > Metroid 2 > Prime > Prime Hunters > Other M". There is a clear difference between each game. Its totally different in aesthetics and gameplay.

This is about fresh experiences. Its about new IP. 2D Mario is currently in the exact same fleet as Call of Duty, the only difference is Call of Duty sets sail every Year instead of every few Years . Its popular and people love the formula, but its very samey with every release.

Look at the differences between 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. Look at the differences between NSMB, NSMB Wii, NSMB 2 and NSMB U.

road rash is actually getting a new game, called road redemption. It was just funded on kickstarter.

Due august 2014, and they hope to offer Oculus Rift support as well, though they didn't hit funding for it.

As for Jak, Sony just seems to not have enough developers to make those games unfortunately. They are stretched thin pumping out massive blockbusters at all times, and the studios they do have available don't have enough experience to be working on titles like Jak.

Though I agree that Timesplitters would be a good FPS addition to the lineup.

Console games are too expensive to make to risk unproven formulas. They stick with the tried and true or some viariant thereof.

However, if you haven't been paying any attention there been an incredible explosion of original games on PC (indie) and mobile. Something Sony and Nintendo are trying to tap into for they next gen systems.
