So it might not be easy, but it is possible. MGS3 is not a JRPG, and JRPG's typically run slower and demand less ram. If anything they would have to compress the CG cutscenese for FFX on 3DS, and maybe tweak it a bit at points of high load, but it's possible.

I don't know whatt the specs for the 3DS, but I recall reading that it was somewhere between the GCN and Wii in terms of power, and closer to Wii. However because 3D requires 2x the rendering power, it's true performance is closer to Gamecube levels.

Tales of the Abyss probably transferred over smoothly because it used the same engine as Symphonia did, and didn't the GCN have less RAM then the PS2?

PS2 - 32MB

Gamecube - 40MB (24MB + 16MB auxiliar)

How how is it that Namco ported Tales of the Abyss so easily, but Konami ported MGS3 so poorly?

Konami has released some awful remakes in the past, though usually handles the MG franchise very well.

How about a Resident Evil: Revelations vs RE4 comparison? Or Kingdom Hearts 3D vs KH2?

Things are a bit slow on the charts now PDZ is gone, yesterday's update was pretty sweet though, PS4 DW8 gets a big thumbs up, as does FFXHD. DaS2 is welcome as well, but it begs the question why wasn't it a launch/ first-year title?

Surely if you're pushed for time to get launch titles out and can only make one, surely you want one which has international appeal. Given that DaS performs well both in Japan and in the west, surely Sony could have pulled some strings to get it on PS4? Hell, surely there is enough reason for From themselves to do it, unless they do it later to get the double-dippers coughing up

Same with Capcom, Dragon's Dogma 2 would have been a great title for the first 6 months/1 year which would have strengthened the lineups of both next-gen consoles, especially if they could've been convinced to keep it off PS360

I know those are both multiplats in the west, but they're as good as exclusives in Japan given the Bone's likely failure, and regardless of market they would have helped to stop people questioning what's the point of going next-gen right now given the games that are available

it's about the same raw power of the wii. but has more advanced architeture and programable shaders. the 3d doesn't diminish the graphics, it just make most games run at a maximun of 30fps when 3d is on. only 2 games run at 60fps with the 3d on, albw being one of them.

as another example, it seems to run donkey kong country returns very well, a wii port.

The games run at a way lower resolution, so no it doesn't have the same raw power of the wii. It does have some techniques PS2 didn't have, but the PS2 has more raw power. This can be seen plainly when looking at PS2 to 3DS ports or sequels.

The graphics of DKCR 3D are definitely worse than the Wii version's. And it runs at half the framerate

if the 3ds can make RE revelations, it is far ahead of ps2, wich was behind gamecube.

I'm pretty sure dkcr only runs in 30fps with 3d on, like many others.

A pretty good update. I don't have much more to say than that though :-/

would the original FFX run on the 3ds? :P

Considering how MGS3 and Tales of the Abyss were ported over with little trouble, despite being latter PS2 games than FFX, FFX should be no problem. If anything, the game would be easier to port, since action is less intense than in those two games.

Besides, any side by side comparison of the PS2 and 3DS shows the 3DS trumping the PS2. Among other things, it has about 4 times the RAM, more modern tech inside of it, etc.

Yes. But for the PS2 to 3DS ports, the 3DS versions are worse from technicial standpoint.

I'm sure they could get the HD remake on the platform if they wanted to, just would need some extra tinkering.

Konami did a shit job of porting Little King's Story to Vita, too.  I think it's more likely that they just don't care about the handheld market anymore.
