I don’t think COMG charts are necessarily indicators of what the future holds for Nintendo, let alone any company. I don’t think Nintendo feels pressured to come out of the gates swinging with their directs. Especially since they are dominating the sales charts on MC and Famitsu. The only time they showed desperation was when they showed a January direct back in 2013 when the Wii U was struggling.

Its just that there is nothing on phisical pre orders on switch right now since all the big holiday titles are all out.
And splatoon, mk8, botw, and iddesey are kicking ps4 games' asses in sales in japan.
