it could just be that there has been too many Dragon Quest games in general lately.

Dragon Quest Heroes, Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest of the Stars, Dragon Quest Builders & Dragon Quest Joker 3 all have released in just over a year.

This is also the 5th Dragon Quest game on 3DS.

Etrian Odyssey V getting one point with 127 days left. Maybe it's going to be interesting to see how far this game can go.

is that series big in Japan? i knew it did well but i thought it was still relatively niche.

Etrian Odyssey IV sold around 96k FW and 191k LT in Japan according to VG Chartz.

So, Etrian Odyssey V could do much better if it keeps like this.

Lol, look at that DQH chart. And imagine how much worse it would be if it had been for all versions combined xD Though musous games based on existing IPs usually follow that trend. First game does well, sequels sell a lot less. At least that's what I've gathered from my approaching two years on VGC.
