Is it just me or the lacking of Hyrule Warriors at this point on the charts is a little worrying?

I was expecting it to pop up a little earlier.

Problem is the limited edition isn't available at COMG, those are the ones that get preorderd first. So hopefully this game has a much better points to sales ratio then any other Musou game.

I didn't know that, thanks for the clarification.

I really hope this game turns out to be at least a moderated success.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well, this is pretty underwhelming if you ask me!

Level 5 continues to impress me. In the last 7 years they've had 3 very successful franchises. Layton, Inazuma and Youkai. Youkai is probably going to be the most successful of the three.
I do wonder why Level 5 never made a Layton anime.

They didn't make it, but there was a Layton movie.

WOW! I knew about Amazon (keeps selling out) and here on COMG its almost matching nintendo's big first party games in pre orders (excluding pokemon obviously :)

A million is definitely possible. I think as of now, 500k is a lock (so far). Lets hope it gets a million. I've been saying SSB 3DS could be very huge as every player will need their own copy (SSB is heavily multiplayer so it makes sense). I kno the WiiU version is coming out as well right after. It would of been better if WiiU+3DS version was spread out by a year imo (of course i dont want that, i mean if they were developed at different times).

Well at least we all kno SSB will be huge!

This is actually something I didn't consider. With consoles, each players doesn't need the game, but with 3DS each person who wants to play needs their own copy. Should lead to slightly inflated sales, much like you see with hunting games these days.

True that, I have to get 2 copies of SSB (maybe even 3 If my sister wants one for herself) vs me just getting 1 copy for wiiu. Especially since japan is HH land. SSBB opened up with 800k. We all know the WiiU>>>3DS in terms of the game overall, but this is japan.

Thats why i think 3DS version will sell more than the WiiU worldwide, for that reason alone.

I must admit Tbone, that was indeed a very important deduction. See, it's always better to throw one of those instead of a "goooooo" ;)

[PS3] Dynasty Warriors 8 - 212,798 / 337,554

[Wii] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - 198,719 / 365,922

Neither LoZ or Musou are quite as big as they once were in Japan and as the bombs that were Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper and FotNS:Ken's Rage 2 on WiiU show, there isn't very much of a musou audience on WiiU and I'm not sure if they'll buy a whole new console for one musou game when they get so many every year on PS3, so I suspect most sales will actually come from Zelda fans. Subtract a little because of the WiiU's small install base and the fact that I'm sure some LoZ fans won't buy it because they think it'll be a dum hack'n'slash and not a proper Zelda and you get a title that'll sell maybe 300k in Japan LTD, possibly 350k if Nintendo push it hard or if it's favourably recieved.

That's not bad for WiiU, but in the grand scheme of things it's only mid-tier, not some huge blockbuster. Combine that with the fact that it's pre-orders are split over multiple SKUs I believe and it's understandable why it hasn't shown up yet. I think it'll do better in the west tbh, where Zelda is more popular (Japan accounted for only 9.7% of SS's LTD sales)

EDIT: Also because it's going to best amongst Zelda fans IMO, it'll probably behave like other Nintendo games and turn up late, but have a strong performance in the 3 weeks or so before its release

Very good explanation, this is a filler or mid-tier game for Japan, it can generate some decent sales and keep the console momentum, but it will not make the sales explode, right now I am just hoping that the special editions come to America in some form.

Here's an interesting comparison with the first Monster Hunter game on the PSP (MH Freedom). The second iteration then sold 1.75m Ltd and MHF Unite then cracked 4 million in Japan. Youkai outselling the first Monster Hunter is very interesting..

The links:

You should add the User base of ach consoles for when relased the game and for the most recent comparison date. I'm sure PSP didn't have half the userbase as 3DS for when MH released, And if YW can be become a system seller we'll see after the next release, because the first one sold with the mouth to mouth and other marketing strategies (anime and mangas), and sells for 3DS haven't sold as great as last year to date, hardware wise.

Second, Monster Hunter wasn't a new IP on PSP, was a port from PS2.  It had already a fanbase. +600k sold in japan only for MH2 , growiing from +280k. It just became massive on handhelds...

Good points! Just thought it was an interesting comparison. Of course Youkai can do an Inazuma and just fade as well, especially if Level 5 milk the franchise.

Btw the PSP had a small userbase of 2.2m when it was released. It was the sole reason the PSP was able to grow consistently after that though considering the incredible DS momentum back then.

is indeed a interesting comparison, but like I said knowing th user base make it better, because we can know how much impact had on the console. I don't see YW being a big console seller like MH was on PSP and even as was on 3DS at the beginning, but that we'll see it when YW2 release. Can 3DS going back to 50k hw sales? or even better 100k?
