Forums - Gaming - Who Are The Best Developers Of This Generation?

I agree about Infinity Ward, regardless of how people feel about COD you can't deny the engine Infinity Ward established. Runs a smooth framerate without sacrificing too much graphic fidelity. One of my favorite devs this gen has been Housemarque. I've spend hundreds of hours in their games chasing high scores in Dead Nation and the Super Stardust games HD on PS3 and Delta on the Vita. Outland was a really great game as well.

What? That's the biggest gripe I have with the series...Modern Warfare 1 looked good in its time, but the graphics didn't improve very much over the time. The animations are plain outdated, the texture resolution is bad. I think locking the game at 60fps is more important than the graphic fidelity of the game, but stating it didn't sacrifice too much fidelity is really pushing it...

Some people talking about it, but I'm curious -- what would you guys pick as the best Nintendo studio of the generation?

EAD 3 (Zelda)?
EAD Tokyo (Mario Galaxy, Flipnote Studio)?
Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, WarioWare)?
Hal Labs (Kirby excluding Epic Yarn)?

Keep in mind 3DS games don't count, so Mario 3D Land, FE Awakening, Sticker Star and the like are exempt.

I always have problems remembering what studio made what when it comes to Nintendo. Your list helps but to answer your question, I would need to know who made Super Smash Bros.Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Punch-Out!!, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged...

RIght now, with what I know, I'm torn between EAD Tokyo (Galaxy games) and Retro (MP3: Corruption and DKCR).

Each COD game has looked better than previous except MW3 (maps are just ugly and lack colour). Sure the improvements are not big as they hit the limit quite early on PS3/360. Black Ops 2 looked quite good as they added quite bit of colour to the environments.

wow its amazing i dont see a lot of ACTIVISION.... even though their games sold the most for some years now

Activision-Blizzard gamers are too busy playing their games to come on forums. I barely see them much on any website. COD haters out number COD lovers on internet by factor of thousands. One would wonder who is buying 25 million plus copies a year.

Pretty good list in the OP. Love Naughty Dog, Valve, Bioware, Nintnedo and Rockstar (RDR). Heck Activison for COD and keeping the servers open on even old games.

i know! but it is really weird :P

SSBB was made by Team Sora
Mario Kart Wii is by Nintendo EAD
NSMBWii is by Nintendo EAD with assistance from their SRD (systems research and development) department
Punch Out!! and Mario Strikers are by Next Level Games
Super Paper Mario is by Intelligent Systems

Except when it comes to PC games :P

5. rockstar
4. sony
3. ubisoft
2. Naughty dog
1. Bioware

I can only agree with Valve in that top 5 from the article. Also, if Last of Us ends up being good and different than Uncharted (at least in terms of being more open and being less like a game that plays itself) I would easily put Naught Dog in there too. Mine:

5. Valve (L4D 1/2, TF2)
4. Epic Games (Shadow Complex, Gears)
3. IW/Treyarch (COD)
2. Bethesda Game Studios (Skyrim, Fallout 3)
1. Irrational Games (Bioshock/Infinite)
