If its what i see here. Its only the camera beeing titled slightly.

Well, yeah, of course it looks that way because it's from a first person point of view. But you're actually locked on to the cover.

There are others that use it, too, but most of them seem to like going into third person view when you take cover.

I know Deus Ex does that. Buy its difficult to call the game an FPS. More of an action/RPG.

So your arguement is... "Any game that's different isn't a shooter, therefore shooter's all have the same boring gameplay."

Guess all action JRPGs should be redefined Action Adventure games and therefore be excluded as well.

Nevermind games like the above mentioned above Wii first person game which uses locked cover which is totally neither of those things. Again you seem to be basing this purely based on unfamiliarity.

I've played both.. I actually like JRPGs a lot more...   FPS hae actually varied a LOT more.

Ok, this cover must be crouching down behind something i'm guessing.

There are FPS with a full blown cover system. Killzone, for one.

We're really gonna have to agree to disagree. Theres no way you can convince me that FPS dont play the same as they did in the past. And i have played modern day ones, and hated them quite a bit for beeing the same boredom they always have been. They ALL play the same. You might throw in some new colors, characters or even some obstacles in the way and call them cover, but i have played this game 20 years ago and its been repacked multiple times ever since. If you played doom/wolfenstein/quake/unreal, you can play any CoD, Battlefield, or this new Wolfenstein.

No. Just no. The basic shooting and moving mechanics may be the same but there's a lot else to it. Seemingly smaller differences (movements speed, weapon damage, health regeneration or the lack of it, different weapons, enemy AI, etc.) cna actually make a huge difference in how the games feel. For example, in some FPS games, you run around shooting bad guys without having to worry too much. Then there's those games where a couple of hits can kill you and you're on your toes all the time. Of course some types of shooters are more popular and those games have much smaller differences, I'll give you that.

The funny thing is that this same picture could work for many of the big RPGs these days . At least JRPGs

Yeah. Very literally in FFXIII's case.

WRPGs, too, in a way. I don't think all streamlining is necessarily bad, but it has gotten to be a bit much with oversimplification and handholding. Even Bethesda games, as sandboxy as they are, are about following the arrow to victory. It's a nice change to play something like Demon's Souls or Soul Sacrifice that still throws you in the deep end and expects you to figure it out for yourself.
