I agree, that you have made both a good and brave post. Sooo many people a rear end hurt of Kinect and it's success. Notice how most of the whiners/haters have never used or almost never used Kinect? People just want to hate it - like many people did when the 'two thumbstick' configuration for a controller came out – it’s new and different and may ask more of you.
Some got left behind, but many embraced it and new gamers going the fold.
First - Kinect sold better it's 2nd and 3rd years than the first. So no, it wasn't a 'just succeeding because it is new' thing.
Second - yes it should be improved. It was a bit risky to lower down the tech so it could work on all Xbox and keep it from getting too expensive. It was still $150 at launch. This next one will be built with it in mind from the ground up.
Third - with the rumored more resolution, a wider range, and less lag Kinect 2.0 should be even more important to the future of human - computer interaction. It’s not just having an option of how to communicate with the game - but who of us hasn’t yelled a game at one point? Now it can react.
Plus - If you look at Halo 3 vs Halo 4 you see a nice jump in graphic fidelity. The next gen will hopefully have a similar jump. And then increases as the generation moves along.
18 more days and will see something new.

To my self and many others THIS is a traditional controller.
Kinect is the next interface for computing devices. Having a computer that can see and hear you is awesome. It will only get better, I can't wait for pc integration of kinect and I hope kinect 2.0 brings that. I want to voice control my pc like i do my xbox (and to a lesser extent my cell phone)
yes Kinect tech will get better and better as time goes on.
Kinect 2.0 really could have a Wii like sales movement in the industry and ultimately, it's easy to see Microsoft is looking to get the parents (and their children), the women and the middle-aged male crowd while retaining that North American 14-19 year old that they hit so well last generation.
My problem is with people pretending that Kinect is changing the industry or will change the industry. The software development quite frankly, just isn't at a point to make these devices viable enough yet. Specific Kinect games might be okay, but it's just an iterative thing to a concept we've already experienced.
Why the Wii was popular was because it introduced motion, sports in motion, exercise in motion and catered to a younger audience on top of it's hardcore one. Why the Wii died off, was because it could never expand beyond that. Why the Wii U still sells terrible is because the market was done with that fad. The reason Move and Kinect are mostly failures is for the same reasons. They weren't the originators of the technology and they didn't create really any truly unique experiences.
Motion controls will have their place and I can really see some potential interesting and cool utilization within games (Like camera capturing, active video chat, etc) especially as internet connection speeds increase. Having Kinect bundled with every Xbox would also give everyone a chance to 'get into motion controls' even a little bit to pique their interest.
The flip side of this in my opinion is fads are fads. Consoles that cater to actual gamers, usually are the ones that come out on top in the end. Microsoft is going for a fad -- when they should be going for pleasing their hardcore gamers while trying to tap other markets.

Kinect might not change the game industry. But Kinect will become more part of the gaming experince, check out RYSE on youtube.
I think that will be the first hardcore kinect title.

That experience already exists. Again, how is an 'on the rails' type game going to change anything? I'm impressed by the Kinect 2.0 but frankly it will only gain traction in a non-gaming environment. That's awesome that Kinect 2.0 can track more people with more precision but TVs are finite in size and spaces in many living rooms are minimal at best.
That's the problem. I really enjoyed Wii Sports and Sports Champions for PS3 but honestly it's just always going to be limited in regard to it's usability. That is precisely why these devices will only have a use in limited circumstances and that 'fad' is only going to decrease not accelerate.
