Kinect 2.0 really could have a Wii like sales movement in the industry and ultimately, it's easy to see Microsoft is looking to get the parents (and their children), the women and the middle-aged male crowd while retaining that North American 14-19 year old that they hit so well last generation.
My problem is with people pretending that Kinect is changing the industry or will change the industry. The software development quite frankly, just isn't at a point to make these devices viable enough yet. Specific Kinect games might be okay, but it's just an iterative thing to a concept we've already experienced.
Why the Wii was popular was because it introduced motion, sports in motion, exercise in motion and catered to a younger audience on top of it's hardcore one. Why the Wii died off, was because it could never expand beyond that. Why the Wii U still sells terrible is because the market was done with that fad. The reason Move and Kinect are mostly failures is for the same reasons. They weren't the originators of the technology and they didn't create really any truly unique experiences.
Motion controls will have their place and I can really see some potential interesting and cool utilization within games (Like camera capturing, active video chat, etc) especially as internet connection speeds increase. Having Kinect bundled with every Xbox would also give everyone a chance to 'get into motion controls' even a little bit to pique their interest.
The flip side of this in my opinion is fads are fads. Consoles that cater to actual gamers, usually are the ones that come out on top in the end. Microsoft is going for a fad -- when they should be going for pleasing their hardcore gamers while trying to tap other markets.
