Forums - Nintendo - why i think Nintendo isn't doing a traditional E3 this year

well for the past few days i been thinking why isn't nintendo doing a traditional E3 this year. do they not have enough games to show? do they think E3 is becoming irrelevante? its actually the contrary, they have some big games to show, and they think E3 is relevant, very relevant.

I been thinking about nintendo and how they are handeling their announcments lately and as any nintendo fan would point out its through Nintendo Directs. and Nintendo Directs is the Main reason why nintendo isn't doing a traditional E3 this year. in the recent nintendo Directs some new big games have been announced, at the moment i can think of the 3DS zelda and  "X", the thing i noticed though is that when these games were announced the media didnt pay great attention to them, they did report the news but it didnt seem like that big of a deal, the news and nintendo directs themselfs were looked at but they werent hyped all that much, and thats where E3 comes in.

I believe nintendo is using the hype around E3 and its importance to grab attention to its Nintendo Directs, Nintendo will announce some big games at ND around the time of E3 and since Nintendo now announced they will be attending E3 through these ND's instead of one big presentation, every media outlet will know that this is basically Ninty's E3 presentation so it will have their full attention, what does this achive? well for starters, after nintendo announces its big games that is has at these Nintendo Directs media outlets will pay further attention to future ND's, because they will know that nintendo means business with these directs, resulting in more attention from the media when announcing future games. another thing is that this stunt will spread the knowledge of what nintendo directs are to gamers who didnt care, or didnt know what they are.

the concept is simple, nintendo is making their E3 presentation a few number of nintendo directs, that way when ever they have ND's anytime in the future they get much more attention. its not that E3 isnt big, its that E3 is that big and they are taking advantage of it

Very doubtful.

that is a good point nintendo does want pretty much full controller of there announcements and E3 this year could be one big promotion for nintendo directs

While plausible, there's just 1 problem.

You don't worry about how big your Nintendo Directs are when your home console is in dire straits. Priorities and all.

"media outlets will pay further attention to future ND's, because they will know that nintendo means business with these directs, resulting in more attention from the media when announcing future games"

Though the aforementioned above could happen.

I agree with u, i was kinda thinking the same thing instead of a big conference, have the ND shown at E3 and a ton of demos on the floor. If the demos are also qvailablr on 3DS/Wii U that would be pretty cool too

Honestly, i think Nintendo is sick of all the crap surrounding E3. Remember last years meltdown. Plus the skyward sword embarrassment. Plus the wii music shenanigans.

E3's importance is simply for marketing. i believe nintendo isnt desperate about their console at the moment. i believe they are looking at the long term plan where they can have more control over their announcments and more hype

They aren't desperate one bit. They just missed their original projections by 40% and missed their revised projection by 55%... they aren't desperate at all
