Forums - Microsoft - The next Xbox rethinks DRM, Achievements and Xbox Live friends, our sources say

Adding new achievements just like that isn't exactly player-friendly. Well, I mean it can be but most likely it will be used to "force" players back to the game long after release when the achievement could really have been in the game in the first place. It's a good idea but I see more harm than benefit there.

Who is forced to what exactly?  I never cared about achievements and won't do next-gen. I don't see who forces me to anything with NextBox?

If they leave DRM up to publishers and developers it sounds that that is the same route that sony is taking as well from what we know.

Do you guys really think that all those casual players that always play BF or COD online will even care about always-online? I mean they are already playing MP so why would they care about always online shit?

Sure we the hardcore forum guys on various sites will care about it but there is no way in hell a company goes bankrupt just because 15-30% of their customers leave them. Profits would fall if they lose consumers but they will not go bankrupt

When both companies announce there will be some kind of online registration the whole matter will die down and people will adapt. I don't think they will require a constant internet connection though. Not even my internet is that stable.

Look at Steam, I don't hear any PC gamers complaining.

Thats the thing and as long as our life gets more connected so will our consoles too(whether its a benefit or not) it's inevitable. Our PCs, tablets and phones are almost always connected so why should a gaming console be any different when online MP and such is bigger than ever?

Steam is one good point too, everything is always connected today so always connected is something that will stay as for how MS implement it well lets wait and see!

Exactly. They are more alike than most want them to be.

Not the first time Ive heard the "up to developers" rumor.

If true it makes things very interesting. Which publishers will have the stones to try and go always online drm first. My money is on EA and if they do I fully expect a complete crash in their sales

The console community wants the option of pre owned games this is clear

MCVUK

GameSpot asked Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida in a quickfire Q&A not if PS4 would block used games but whether second hand games will require an activation code on the console.

His answer: “It's a publisher decision. We are not talking about it. Sorry.”

Why did MS let themselves take all the hate by not speaking, if Sony has the same policy?

This will be MSFT/Sony's way of creating good relation ships with Publishers/developers who have been screaming for DRM.

And for people saying EA will crash and burn.....If they do it right people will buy the games that use it.  SimCity is a bad example but games on steam are a good example which is also a DRM.  People won't mind as long as it is done right.

If the have the same policy why would they change their plans for a few people who complain on forums?
