Sure we the hardcore forum guys on various sites will care about it but there is no way in hell a company goes bankrupt just because 15-30% of their customers leave them. Profits would fall if they lose consumers but they will not go bankrupt

When both companies announce there will be some kind of online registration the whole matter will die down and people will adapt. I don't think they will require a constant internet connection though. Not even my internet is that stable.

Look at Steam, I don't hear any PC gamers complaining.

Thats the thing and as long as our life gets more connected so will our consoles too(whether its a benefit or not) it's inevitable. Our PCs, tablets and phones are almost always connected so why should a gaming console be any different when online MP and such is bigger than ever?

Steam is one good point too, everything is always connected today so always connected is something that will stay as for how MS implement it well lets wait and see!
