Mass Effect definitely was the most RPG-like of all the games. I liked part two because it gave you the perfect balance between action game and RPG. The powers were amazing and the DLC was simply the best in the franchise. Kasumi mission, Liaras mission to find the shadow broker? When I finally saw the Shadow Broker after that amazing dlc I was like omgoogle! So much action! I didnt finish Mass Effect 3 on the 360 when I had it but I am finishing it on the PS3 after I finish my part two playthrough. I am playing through everything on hard. I'll play on insanity later on, much later on. As much as I love this franchise the whole trilogy takes like 120 hours to beat it if you really take your time to enjoy all the game has to offer.

The only thing that annoys me on Mass Effect 1 is that we didn't get the ability to start from Insanity from the get go. You've had to do 2 playthroughs to unlock that difficulty, and everytime that you re-installed the game (I play the trilogy on the PC) you'd have to do it all over again. 

After playing ME on Insanity, Veteran and Hardcore just don't feel challenging anymore. 

I agree with you on ME2 DLC being the best in the franchise. I really liked the Shadow Broker mission, and it was actually rather challenging (the final battle with the Shadow Broker was tough as hell on Insanity) and Liara ending up being the next Shadow Broker was an amazing touch.

I only know this because I had to look it up. 


The military readiness missions are pretty fun if you have friends. If you want to do it with me you can. I need all the partners I can get when I start part 3. I suggest we start a ME3 clan to get our readyiness up to 100%!

I bought the trilogy on PS3 for 40 USD last December. That was a steal, in my opinion. I had already bought ME2, but my backlog kept me from getting ME3 early. I was about to get ME3 on disc but when I heard the first game was coming in physical form I decided to wait till it was sub 60 since I had already bought the second game. Don't regret the purchase! Great series, albeit ME2 is by far my favorite, followed by the first game. I'll have to play ME3 with all the DLC to see how it measures up to the first two entries.

I did it on purpose. I have 4 characters, the one I used first before knowing the game so made decisions as I went (my character), an all good guy, all evil (perfect game) and a useless idiot, who did nothing but get people killed and make the wrong choices. I had to wait a long time to finish the last one's play through as my readiness was 100% from the Good and Evil playthroughs, so had to wait to get it down.

If ME1 is $15 on US PSN, probably £10 on UK PSN, well worth it.

Another thing ... playing those games on insanity was a LOT of fun. ME2 was more challenging for me than ME3, but each respective game was a lot of fun. Those banshees were a pain on insanity though (ME3). I'd often have to send a squad mate as a distraction in my strategy to take them out. Well ... not Liara. She died quite fast because of her low health.

I'm curious .... which pair did you guys use for the last missions in ME2 and ME3 respectively? I used Legion and Miranda in ME2 and Edi and James (talk about a meat shield) in ME3.

Mass Effect 2's my favorite by a lot.

The most novel one was ME1.
-It had the best music.
-However the shooting felt like it was done by someone who never made a shooter.
-And while it had cool RPG elements that I wished the other had. They weren't exactly done well imo. It had the best story though. --Thus, I didn't feel it wasn't really a spectacular RPG, or spectacular shooter, just a good concept, that's fun to play for what it is, and I beat it 3 times.
-The mako idea was cool change of pace. But, the planets were boringly textured and layout. How the series should have done the mako was how it was done in ME2 DLC overloard which looked awesome and controlled great.
-It actually felt you were exploring space, in ME1, in 2 and 3 it felt very very sectionalized.
It does suck that that they removed the exploration as the first actually made it feel like

I'm loving ME1 at the mo, first time i played it. Loved Mass 2 and 3.

Although i'll wait for the GOTY edition for ME3 to play it again the 3 pieces of DLC (Bought day 1 DLC Ashes) is £30!

Then I can sell my original copy.

Can't wait for a next Gen Mass effect.

It starts slow as hell and the survey missions are exhausting, but once you dig into the missions and assignments it becomes sooooo worth it! 

- Its Truly the little things underrated conversations like"The fan" that make you seem like either the greatest guy  in the world or the biggest douche bag in the galaxy. It even carries over to the second game if you keep your eye open and make the right decisions.

- Conversations are longer and have more sway over your overall relationships. They also had more recorded dialogue for each choice, unlike Mass Effect 3 where it felt like most decisions had the same outcome unless they were major. In the first Mass Effect every conversation counts. The longer you hold a conversation by choosing the right dialogue the more exp you got in a new convo.

- The drama between characters was real, seeing that we're experiencing the creation of a real team with true bias before they got to know one another. There was conflict before the resolution, which is very rare in videogame storylines. Its almost on par with Mass Effect 2's "love triangle" storyline as well. The pay off of getting in a relationship means more in part one though. You really have to romance your partner.  

- The RPG elements are superior to sequels w/ customizable outfits, guns and implants that allow for extra buffs and privilages. Superior armor wasnt given to you to preorder a game either. You had to earn it. 

-Omni-gel was easier to come by and has actual value in part one and could be used where your code hacking abilities sucked. Bartering was much more satisfying as well because you held more armor. Much more money for you over a period of time. 

- You go out and find your outfits as well as purchasing them. It makes you want to scower the galaxy "treasure hunting". 

-Grenades.....nuff said. I threw a grenade at this big robot and when I aimed it right at his chest shepard yelled out "Eat this!". Classic!

 

Despite the issues, the overall quality of what makes Mass Effect great shines brightly in the first game. Two is my favorite but one is definitely above three for me.

I could go on and on. (and probably will)

I recommend this game if you have a PS3 and havent played it. I havent played the first game since 2008.


It actually carries over right to end of the 3rd game and with much more of it in the 3rd than either the 1st/2nd. :)
