Give me a break.

People make jokes about men on here constantly. Your on forums on the Internet grow tougher skin

Why should she (or anybody else, including males) should grow tougher skin for browsing a forum?

The first job of a moderator should be to create a healthy and fun environment on the site that they are moderating, for all the users. I think the mods of this site are failing at that however I basically don't care about personal attacks or trolling so it doesn't bothers me that much, but is obvious that it bothers some people.

And if I say that your post offends me as a moderator, does that illustrate how impossible it is to make everyone happy at the same time?

If you feel that my post is offensive you would find thousands more like that and you would have to ban thousands of users, basically killing the site.

Getting back to the point - Galaki's post was totally off-topic. She was reporting a legitimate forum issue and he comes with an un-needed joke. Deleting a post that wasn't contributing anything to a serious question would have been a good idea don't you think?

Exactly. I already forgive Galaki the post if it makes that point. We should stop leaving offensive/"moderated" posts up... all it does is give the offensive user basically a trophy for a good job. A lot of people are pretty proud of the trouble they start... and it provides a form of entertainment for those who stealth troll and continuously press the buttons of others to get the reaction that is wanted.

I do not see how the current moderation method is "moderation"... it's having the complete opposite effect on the quality of posts at this forum.

So if a woman made a joke about one of you guys having a boner you would become upset and want her banned?

I mean come on people. That is just rediculous

I dont find racist jokes offensive, it doesnt mean they arent offensive to others. Just because I dont care if people insult my race... If someone called me white trash, I wouldnt care. If I called someone a little chink, they would care.

People have thicker skin than others. Different things offend different people. Thats just the way it is.

Except for the fact he never insulted women

She made a thread about a PM problem and he made a joke about PMS.  A play on words.  I mean my god if were banning people based on something as simple as that now the entire forum will be perma banned within 2 weeks.  This nothing more than someone being oversensitive about litteraly nothing.  There was zero attack on women in his comment

he made a joke to someone he didnt have the relationship to make that kind of joke with. the same joke will be received differently depending on how close the person who made it is to you.

i can handle that kind of joke from a close friend but i never gave someone like you the liberty to make any jokes regarding my religion (not even my close friends would do something so stupid and childish) or my gender. if someone took the liberty have no doubt i'd report them, this isnt 4 chan or a troll farm, there are rules.

I dont care if you gave me the liberty to make jokes.  Your in an open forum.

I respect the hell out of women and am a serious poster and virtually never post anything joke related.  But this is nothing more than an absolutly trivial joke that quite frankly if it offended someone so what? the joke neither attacked or targeted anyone.

an open forum with very clear rules, and where i'm free to report whatever i find offensive and against those rules. the joke itself was an example that she happened to use as an ilustration for an issue that is real.

it's an open forum so we are entitled to point it out. it's not against the rules ;)

Ben youre completely missing the point.

Just because you or I may not get offended, doesnt mean other people dont get offended.

Eh, it wasn't that bad. He shouldn't have said it, but there doesn't need to be an uproar about it. It wasn't like he used an off topic joke to offend her, it was a play on words. While it was a bit insensitive, I probably see more offensive posts on a daily basis.

isnt that the problem? the joke is just an example of a bigger issue

Yeah he made the best point and didn't realize it lol

No Im not the users in this thread are.

The job of a mod isnt to prevent individuals from being offended.  Their job is to ensure no overt attacks are used towards specific people, specific groups, or posts that show things universally agrred as inapropriate such as graphic images.

The post that is specifically mentioned does none of these things.  It was simply a play on words.  Its not a mods job to care if an individual is offended by it

his joke would've been funny had it been directed at someone he was familiar enough with to make it (brilliant is stretching it, by a lot). learning how to address different individuals is a sign of maturity.

It's brilliant, because it's the first response in the thread. You need to get the one-liners in as early as possible. Sometimes a joke requires to use words that may address one person specifically, because otherwise it wouldn't really work.

Expecting maturity on a video game forum is a lofty expectation in general and from Galaki in particular.

are you saying gamers arent mature? sacrilege!!!!!!!!

this makes it much too complicated on this site.. so just to make sure.. if she is a Nintendo fan we can bash her like we normally do? cause we can't even get allong when someone owns the "wrong" console how are we gonna do that with gender, sexual preference, religion and everything else in life?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

The reason they need to quickly stop overt attacks (which I don't think they do well either) is because it is highly offensive. You do realize, you have basically legitamized stealth trolling by saying "Well, as long as it's not obvious and it's just a 'joke'..."

Yeah, I can make a dozen jokes and know they offend someone and avoid the filter. People get banned for jokes on this site too in fact, so actually... what is your point actually?

@bolded thats correct and but the OP isnt just talking about her self "I know I am not the only girl who does this and there are about 10-11 of us that I know of... we get tired of reading this site and when I find the new members, I immediately seek them out so they don't start to feel alienated by it."

it seems that a big number of the female posters feel that way.  now look at the underlined post, and there is the issue. a specific group is feeling that they are being alienated by these sort of comments. should galai's post be moderated? as kentor said, no it shouldnt. but does it seem that there is a issue that should be looked more into? i think so
