Gearbox has ruined both series that they inherited from other developers; Duke and ACM. The former however was a pile of crap before they ever got their hand on it and the later wasn't even developed in house.

As a developer I believe Gearbox is 'good' getting into 'great'.

As a company however, their reputation is dirt.

If Gearbox actually utilise this IP, I expect a competent, well tuned game streamlined for console, with a plethora of DLC and dumb down gameplay that will have the hardcore crowd frothing in the mouth.

If they abuse the IP I expect another pile of crap hitting the proverbial fan. Duke's dissapointment was expected, Alien however was an outright lie. Homeworld will make or break them for the hardcore crowd.

Gearbox are pretty avaerage dev their games range from pretty good to dogshit (A:CM) but they have a lot of telented people working there maybe they will surprise us all with the game just like they did with buying the IP. I haven't played them myself but people seem to remember the Half-Life expansion packs that they made back in the day so they don't ruin ever IP they are given, and that Halo PC port wasn't that bad.  At the very least they are going to be making the original games available to download which is more than THQ ever did. And to be honest who ever got the IP would have made a DLC filled game that would have likely made hardcore fans foam at the mouth. SEGA and Relic are no strangers to DLC and streamlining hell look at DoW II, Paradox Interactive I love but they are no strangers to truck loads of DLC and Stardock isn't against the idea ether.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Around the Network

I'm gonna go with my initial reaction which was "Gearbox? Vomit"

Looking through their back catalogue, apart from porting Samba De Amigo they haven't made anything apart from shooters? Bodes well for Homeworld. Guess I'll just be digging out my copy of Homeworld 2 instead...

In other news, I don't know who Nordic Games are, but they got a damn lot of IP's. I hope they make good use of Destroy All Humans... HD Collection perhaps?

As always I'll be most hopeful that they play Summoner 2 and realise what a masterpiece it is, though, and announce a sequel. One day...

ow let me just make a post about Red Faction cause nobody has mentioned it... yeah I also don't really care about Red Faction

I would have prefer Paradox or Stardock or Sega tbh... at least all 3 companies have a PC focus development studio and the right pedigree with respect to strategy.

Gearbox develop FPS, their entire History is one big giant blob of FPS, they are also a developer with a heavy focus on console... Neither of those 2 points are looking promising.

I will concede though, simply by promising to release the first 2 game on GOG they have already handle the IP ten times better than THQ.
