Graduated summa cum laude, inducted to the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa, and now a job that sounds cool (and did require a Federal Background Check) but is actually well beneath my qualifications (and is boring as piss)

This summer i'm going to get shit together to apply to PhD programs for Fall 2014, and then start applying for work, because i really need to get out of this job (since it pays too little for me to move out of my parents' house, too)

So now I am curious. What did you study? (all your degrees). How relative is your job to what you studied? Do you live in North America? I did not click your profile, so forgive the ignorance.

Well, I started believing that the universe was determined before knowing that determinism was a thing. Additionally, I figured out the dilemma of determinism all by myself, leading me to not believe in free will. Not at all saying that this is proof of me being overly intelligent, but it should indicate some degree of "street smartness".

I have a degree on Marketing, Advertisement and PR and instruction on Engineering of informatics and computers. That includes some basic knowledge of Assembly, Pascal, C++ and Java.

Watching some posts, i guess i can add that i cook dinner almost everyday aswell, and moved to a foreign country to live with my other half.

This thread seems to be more like "intelegence tied to real life".
Unfortunely, im still struggling with the language barrier so i can get a proper job. That reminds me... i can speak 4 languages to some degree and im learning my 5th.

Lots of graduates are ending up with two or three degrees, huge student debt and long term unemployed.

I'm still alive. That's proof enough of how clever I am.

Uhh, I've been accepted into the University of Edinburgh?

Charles Darwin went there and shit.

My only problem with this is that the education system in Scotland is such that any dolt can go to the University of Edinburgh or University of Glasgow, or any number of Scottish Universities.

In the US the criteria to getting into a prestigious university is often a Grand Point Average (GPA) of 3.90 or higher, as well as extra-curricular activities.   While it's fine that such programs as medicine require high achievement at the secondary level, the fact is that anyone with a passing grade can get into a Scottish University kind of takes away the significance of the fact that you got in.

What would actually be more impressive is knowing your secondary school marks your 5th or 6th year.  Hell, extremely impressive is if you were able to leave secondary at the end of your 5th year and enter university based on your marks up to and including your 5th year.
