To me a fanboy is someone who hates others for haveing different taste. A fan enjoys what they like and respects other's opinions. A fanboy refuses to accept any other opinion but theirs.
As for calling out fanboys. That's actualy against the forum rules. You can't name anyone here a fanboy.

Quite frankly I put people in two groups. One is fans/likes a particular platform(s) more then others which is fine. Then there are fanboys that will defend there one platform of choice to the bitter end against all logic. They might attack other people too if they say something logical, but negative towards their platform of choice. That really my def of a fanboy.

About my choosing an Animal Crossing avatar.
"Even more than I used to" is ambiguous. It could have meant that he liked me loads and now think's I'm super-awesome. Or it could mean that he only used to like me a tiny bit but mostly despised me; and now he loves me because I love Animal Crossing.
Of course, I was the same person with the same tastes before I decided to change my avatar. But most people take things face value on these forums; so if I have a Spyro avatar and a Sony signature, I couldn't possibly own & love 3 Animal Crossing games.
(I'm just kidding by the way, NinPie. I know you said it in relation to being a fan of the series; rather than it being a Sony/Nintendo thing).
To offer up a serious answer, though, I think it's to do with perception. And again, I'll use an example to illustrate this:
When things are so outwardly presented like they are on here, you can easily categorise people into different groups depending on what they show. As such, when you read through things, you begin to build up an idea of what each group are like.
Being a mostly Sony-sided poster, I make a biggest note of the great posts that come from Sony fans, and tend to be less receptive of trolling or just general silly remarks of people from this fanbase. Conversely, it sticks out to me more when a Nintendo or Microsoft poster is saying ridiculous things and by initial reaction it sours my opinion of that whole group.
The sensible thing to do is just move past this, which of course I've done. A lot of my favourite users on this site are Nintendo fans - the ones which are level-headed and make well-thought-out, clever and neutral posts (and the occasional harmless troll post which gets a laugh from me, too).
There's still the middle ground though. Those users who are mostly good contributors to the forum but sometimes say incredibly stupid things. I think again, I'd be more lenient towards those who are Sony fans and more scornful of those who are fans of the other two companies. Can't help it, I guess!
I like reasonable posters, no matter which system they prefer.
But boastful, condescending and annoying posters quickly go to my own "don't read/don't talk to" list (which is only based on threads I read, I don't care what people do in threads I don't read) - I admit that it is easier for Microsoft and Nintendo fans to annoy me.

Didn't you just describe race and generalizations? I think you're on to something here.

I think you have it backwards about fanboys. It's not that they defend their platform of choice. It's that they attack other platforms with hatefull malice. Like yous aid fans like their particular platform(s) so it's reasonable that they will defend them. Even to the bitter end. But fanboys are the ones that will attack untill the bitter end.

you are mistaken about one thing their kain, there is no end with them. they simply never stop

Personally I call the people that attack until the bitter end "hateboys", as not seldomly they aren't really big fans of anything.

Agreed. A guy loving Sony and arguing how great they are to death is not a fanboy, just a super fan. A guy bashing the competition to make Sony look better however is a fanboy.
