Personally i honestly think the gap is too much for the vita to pull back now, that doesn't mean it wont end up selling better in a year or two though, especially if they get a monster hunter game in japan. Persoanlly i am a nintendo guy and love my 3ds but will probably end up buying a vita when the price drops having seen my brothers. Would be nice to see sega re enter the market but i dont see that happening and microsoft would have done a handheld if they were going to do one by now i think.

I think everyone should just get off their butts and buy a Vita. It seems to be in agreement that it would be the best thing for Nintendo.

Phones and tablets are not gonna take away the dedicated portable market. Is there anyone who would play an RPG of 40 hours on their phone? Phones are only good for very short non continuous bursts of gameplay. The controls are dire. The same goes for the Tablet. Its more of a PC replacement than a game console.

The 3DS is selling more than the DS and people are still spewing this nonsense. There is definitly an atempt at destroying the portable console market in place, but its here to stay.

Now as to the analisys of the market at the moment. The Vita clearly came out sooner than it should because it overlaped with the PSP. The PSP is still going in Japan, even though in the west it was destroyed due to piracy. Sony should have brought out a different PSP model before they went for the Vita. This also plays in place towards the price, wich would be cheaper.

Now, we are where we are. Those were the disavantages, but what are the advantages? People here are saying that Sony wont make another handheld. I dont know if thats true, but i know this: Just like the PSP can compete with the 3DS on a technical level, no doubt the Vita can do the same with the next Nintendo handheld. Sony can actually skip one generation if they want because they are that far ahead technology wise. This would no doubt give the Vita a very long and sucessful shelf life, aslong as it keeps getting supported.

I think the question is will even Nintendo attempt another dedicated handheld gaming system?

The market has changed. Games are becoming available on an ever increasing range of devices and the precieved need to buy a system solely for that purpose is ever decreasing.

I owned a DS but would never even consider dropping $100+ for a 3DS (or Vita). There are FAR more games I want to play on my Android smartphone than I have time to. For free. Sure I miss some of Nintendo's greats - would love to have Fire Emblem or Mario Kart - but there's tons of great games on Google Play too and more every single week. I can't keep up. No droughts here!!

If anything I figure Nintendo will launch a hybrid home/portable console (WiiU without limit to range) but even that will be too little too late as Galaxy S4 and (rumoured) iPhone 5 will allow you to play games off-TV or portable now. So in 3-4 years from now when Nintendo gets around to it, it'll be another WiiU - something that could have been cool, years ago, but now looks limited compared to what else is available. WiiU SHOULD have been that device (eliminating 3DS completely). Their next system has to go far beyond that now.

As for Sony and even Xbox I expect their future portablity will be on systems other than dedicated handheld gaming devices.

How so? 3DS is already doing well and getting a great library of games.

Vita will be going head-to-head with the 3DS in a few years. The handheld has tons of potential and Sony still has some cards to play.

The 3DS is awesome, but the Vita is even better. Its become my main platform since i got it. Believe me, i had my doubts, but i now understand why the system has such vocal defenders. Its a really good system. You can play games and surf the web, go to the PS shop, listen to music all at the same time. You can watch youtube in the nice screen aswell as download videos to watch (like anime for example, if you know where to look). The games look absolutely gorgeous and the play scheme feels so right with that second analog. The analogs have a really cool feeling to them. They are unique and feel right for portable gaming. They are different from the analogs on console controllers.

It also runs varios apps like Skype, facebook and the sort. It also has google maps if you want to plan a trip.

I have both portables, but from a hardware point of view, the Vita is alot more confortable. It really hurts that the 3DS doesnt have a second analog stick. I feel that getting the addon will make the screen feel off as it wont be in the center of your hands anymore. Wish Nintendo would come with a revise that has two analogs.

With that said, im a gamer before i could be a fanboy. As such i love both my portables and want plenty of support for both of them. It would be best for us consumers if that happened.

I find it interesting that many people have already decided that the Vita cannot be a success for Sony, even though it still has several years left in its life-cycle. It's getting games and slowly beginning to fill the niche occupied by the PSP. It still has a very long ways to go.

Also, as with the PSP, people forget that "winning" isn't the immediate goal of a business. The Vita doesn't have to finish first to warrant a successor.

Not really sure about this. Would they use a nintendo made os the phones? Samsung already has their flagship galaxy series. What would a nintedno phone do to compete against android and apple if they are going with a specific os.
