So the long awaited "New" Legend of Zelda has been revealed. Will it be for 3DS what NSMB was for DS? No, of course not, but will it be similar? Will it be a title that people have waited decades for? A 2D Zelda in the traditional style with modern visuals and effects. Zelda is not as big as Mario, but it is big and people love their nostalgia and they love their 2D action.

The original Zelda sold 6.5 million copies, and was the most successful Zelda in Japan. For some perspective, SMB3 sold 17 million on NES and the NSMB revival sold 29 million decades later.

I think the new 3D Zelda could present an accessible, retro, nostalgic adventure. From the trailer it looks like it will be well done, and feature things like rechargible, amo-less arrows that will make the game easier to play (though not necessarily less challenging). I think it will appeal to old fans of the series and bring in new fans.

In short, I think the game will be huge. I think this Zelda will move systems and sell a lot of copies and make a lot of people happy. With Poekmon and others, I think this will be a massive 3DS year. I think like NSMB for DS, this title will push 3DS to another level, and push the Zelda brand to another level.

I expect a possible 10 million seller in Zelda, and 3DS to top 20 million this year.

Just give me a Zelda with a dating sim option (and a *cough* gift at the end of the line) and my life will be completed!

That single game took me from "I'll probably buy 3DSs for my kids eventually" to "I'm getting them each one this holiday with a few games, among them will be ZeldaLTTP2".

If it sells half of what you expect would be a huge success.

Zelda games sell well but not Mario-well.
I do think this is going to be one of the best selling Zelda games. Being a sequel to what many claim to be the best Zelda title, does help!

I don't think it'll be THAT successful, but I'm super hyped for it, and I know it'll move some hardware. I know several people for whom this is the game that will push them over the edge to get the system. Combine this with Pokemon and forgot about it.

All I know is that I'm ecstatic about it.

Doesn't look like it's going to have touch controls which is a huge plus. Still though, the trailer suggests quite a few puzzles, so the game is going to be more along the lines of The Minish Cap than A Link to the Past. It should outsell TMC based on nostalgia alone, but more than five million copies are doubtful. I expect lifetime sales in the range of 3-5m.

Rol pretty much says it all, so I'll just echo his post...

Cheers Rol! I know you read this, because I qouted you, and you saw that, so you went in here to see what's up, and I just wanna say that it's only me agreeing with you, so no worries man.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The "New" titles of Mario put the boots to the old ones, sales-wise. I think the New Zelda could exceed the old Zelda's as well, in large part because of the hype and longing created with such a long absence. And I think it will push systems.

Personally, I had almost no intention of buying any handheld. But I might buy a 3DS just for this game. I went from about a 10% to 60% 3DS buy because of 2D Zelda. If they release an updated model I may take the plunge.

I think it all depends on how well its advertised but you most likely are correct.
