I'm just going to bring a little historical perspective on how the S3 performed.

In its launch quarter, the SGS3 outsold the iPhone 4S.

The quarter after that, both the iPhone 5 and the 4S outsold the SGS3. That's right, in it's second quarter on the market, the Galaxy S3 was outsold by an iPhone which had already been on the market for 5 quarters.

I think the SGS4 might outsell the iPhone for a single quarter as carriers order a bajillion units to stock their shelves. I don't think it'll outsell lifetime units of either the 4S or the 5.

What don't you like about it? I absolutely love mine and recommend it to everyone.

Off top of my head?

1. Unresponsive to touch (Seriously, I have to tap stuff often multiple times, and often locks up and I have to reboot it).

2. Crashes (Any time I try to use it "Force Close" appears and it just ceases to work and have to shut it down for a while)

3. Dropped calls and bad connection, even in urban environments (How is this possible in 2013?)

4. Text errors where messages do not send, send multiple times (Either sending or receiving)

5. Internet is useless (Click a link? Nope. Watch a video? Nope. "Cannot find Page" is what you get here 80% of the time)

I have had Sprint as a provider for 10 years (only company I have used) and my previous phone, an HTC, had none of these issues.  Everyone told me $50 was a good deal because it was slimmer and had a bigger screen.  I even went to Sprint after being so disappointed in my purchase and was told to wait that "LTE" upgrade would fix it...sometime later in 2013.  I barely use the thing anymore as it is a glorified paper weight.  I have no issue with Samsung and love my Samsung television, but I will never buy another phone made by them again.  Look forward to 2015 and ridding myself of this for a Nokia or HTC or what ever.

Since Android is diluted to many different phones, even within the same manufacturer, I don't think any specific phone will ever top "iPhone" in overall sales.

However, Samsung does beat Apple in phone sales / marketshare overall.

Weird. I'm on Verizon and have had zero of those problems since launch day. Touch screen works great for me, it crashed once a month after buying, never had a bad connection (probably just cause I have a different carrier), texting doesn't have any of those glitches, and the standard internet works perfectly. Most of my browsing on vgchartz is done with it. I even convinced my brother to get it a few months ago and his also works flawlessly.

Has the software ever updated itself for you? I'm on 4. 1. 2. Have you complained to the store?

I have heard Verizon is better, but like I said, Sprint service from 2003-2012 was fine, even old days of my Nokia 5110 (remember when everyone had those?)  could do the complex task of making a phone call.  I have been to the store multiple times and they kept saying how updates would fix it and it is as bad now as day I bought it.  I tried browsing this site with it and it cannot recognize to type in rpely box or register "submit" button (this is common issue elswhere).

I talked to someone else on here and they said I was stuck with a lemon or something, but it has left a bad taste in my mouth would like a functioning phone someday for work purposes and bit for fun.

This. Samsung don't need a single phone to outsell the iPhone as they have models for a range of different market segments.

If Apple released a true sub-$200 iPhone (meaning $199 off contract instead of $579+) they would win the internet. And market share.

It doesn't have to to be a successful product. Apple has a monopoly over the iOS market. Samsung has to battle other smartphones in the Android market. It just has to sell well and steal some of Apple's market share for it to be successful.
