What is this? A joke thread? Stock shortages! In What country?

Japan only.

That makes sense then. Only shortage here is store managers neglecting to buy more to collect dust on their shelves. I am being serious and it is not a troll comment. I work at walmart. It is not just vita, wii U as well. The wii u games sell, but not the systems. Nothing vita sells much though. Of course, itis walmart.

This definitely qualifies you then.

correct me if I'm wrong here, the Japanese retail system is different to that of the west. There is no 'return' policies in place if something a retailer orders doesn't sell well. So they are much more conservative in how they order inventory. I can see why such a system can lead to shortages....it's not easy to just ramp up production etc at a whim, especially for different colors and special editions like in Japan. Not really a hard concept to grasp and clearly no reason to downplay...

@Ryan: pls dude just stop. WiiU software is selling like absolute shit in the US. Even if what you said was accurate it should tell you that walmart isn't exactly gaming haven

I just hope the Vita will allow some decent competition for the 3DS in the future. Sony should be wetting their pants after the announcement of Pokemon X and Y. Man, what a launch that will be. I'll be getting it also. But really Sony needs better games on Vita. Persona Golden won't save the thing entirely. With Nintendo you have all these popular IPs putting out extremely well done software and Vita can't match not one. I pray for its success so maybe we'll get a Dragon Quest VIII portable.

why should sonyh be pissing themselves over a game EVERYONE knew existed and was comming before nintendo announced it?

I'm sure sony could have found 10 chinese kids to produce those 5 to 10 thousand extra units a week..This is really bad management.. Its not like they need 100.000 extra units a week..

It's not that easy to ramp up production in the quality you want. But that said - Sony should have expected increasing sales and produced some units in preparation.

Yes I know, but 5000 really shouldn't be a problem at the production levels for a device like the Vita.. there are no components specially build for it..  Foxconn can handle that if Sony would pay the money..

5,000 would have increased it to normal sales that you are thinking of. However, there would still be shortages. So it's more than 5,000. On top of that you just don't push a button and production speeds up until you are caught up like commercials show.

The thing will only sell more if more games are released.

Because it won't be on Vita, that's why. That is more 3DS systems sold and less PS Vitas sold. Pretty straightforward I think.

Im glad Sony is selling their Vita. its funny to see that Sony didn't expect the Vita to sell as good.

Looking at the Vita release schedule for summer/fall, I just don't see the games to sustain their temporary boost.

Japan is more of a release date/software library market than a price point market, if games stop coming, hardware sales almost always collapse.

They'll have a decent Golden Week because of the rash of releases the past month, but after that .... doesn't look so hot.

The thing is basically dead in North America, so that's a whole other can of worms.

Some stores are claiming ''in-stock'' while Sony claims there are shortages. Hmmm....

Really not because of Pokemon itself, but the surprise "Worldwide launch"right at October along with the shift to 3D which no one saw coming.

Oh and GTAV. Yeah.
