When I played the Wii versions of COD I was genuinely surprised at how good they were, and using the Wii Zapper was the best way to play COD. It's a fair point to say that as the % of RAM available between Wii/PS3 and Wii U/PS4 is about the same and therefore PS4 titles should be able to be ported over to Wii U with some concessions made.
Does anyone know if it is possible for the Wii U to utilise more of its 2GB of RAM in the future with a system update?

Nintendo could potentially allow more than 1GB for the games if they can streamline the OS and just make it more efficient. The PS3 did this where Sony later on allocated more RAM for games through a system update. So I don't see why Nintendo couldn't either.

If thats true then why  didnt have enough ram to do cross chat? Some things that are developed are set in stones in the hardware specs. Software is another issue I think.

Thanks. 70 MB isn't much though.

It's a lot for current gen where 252MB was available for games on PS3 initially iirc. 70MB is a huge boost over that.

You make a good point. In the next gen thats not going to fly, thats probably the train of thought I was in.

A similar proportional reduction of the Wii U OS would free up 580MB of RAM.

Skyrim runs on 256mb of ram on consoles. It doesn't need all the gigs in the world to be played. Source. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=156787&page=1

True, but it depends on how much really needs to be cut.

The Wii U OS seems pretty bloated; unless its packed full of capabilities we don't know of yet, 1GB seems like overkill.

im just going to refer you to Barozi's post, look at that list and then try to tell me the Wii version was like the others

The core gameplay was essentially the  same. Like the graphics, it had less detail, but the fundamental mechanics and functionality were present and playable. You had the same guns, perks, for the most part missions and maps, the same large enemy counts, large environments, and story.

Levels in the single player capaign were shortened.  The game also didn't get map pack support, and other things were different.  There was a difference involved for a number of reasons.

In my original post, I made mention of 1GB RAM for the Wii U, because 1GB RAM is set aside for the operating system and other features.  The PS4 is set to have 1GB set aside for its RAM also, making for 1GB of the RAM vs 7GB of RAM on the PS4.  That is 7 times less RAM.

Black Ops and World at War had level trims, but Modern Warfare 1 & 3 were intact.

256 MB of RAM?  So that means Skyrim could run on the original Wii then?

Thing is Skyrim was coded to the target this generation of consoles, which was 256 MB of RAM and 256 MB graphics PS3.  The target console was the PS3.  Does that mean the Wii could run it?  I don't see that.  And if next gen major titles end up targeting like 4 MB of RAM minimum, then how is the Wii U going to run it?

So how exactly do you level trim a game that is an open world game, and everything in the world loads once and runs together at once, like the way Crackdown did?  Do you seriously not think that a bunch of open world games won't be done next generation?

Open world games don't have to be loaded at all once; the 7th gen and even the 6th gen had plenty of open world games, achieved by loading sections of the world in and out as the player moves through it. (GTA:SA did open world on the PS2's 32MB of RAM, for instance)
