Forums - Nintendo - Story-wise, where does Metroid go from here?

If they don't do another interquel like Other M, what do you think the next Metroid game will be about? I long believed that they wrote themselves into a corner with Fusion, but given how heavily the franchise leans on the reset button for a lot of factors, i now think the possibilities are quite intriguing. Samus, the outlaw, with Adam serving as her shipboard AI and "Mr. Exposition" throughout the game, on the run from the Federation, perhaps? Maybe the Federation has found a new Chozo ruins site, and wants to weaponize all of their stuff, and Samus is trying to stop them while something more sinister lurks under the surface (yet another evil the Chozo were dealing with).

One idea i once saw was that the game could bring in exposition only to match the amount of Lore you uncovered. If you never discovered a certain plot point via lore, then the game would never incorporate it, making the story effectively as deep as you want it to be or as you are able to make it (although this would necessitate a Prime-style game for gameplay).

What kind of story would you guys like to go with.

This also marks my first created thread in a damn long time. Feels good...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Exposition in Metroid games makes noname

Bad juju happens on mysterious planet. Bounty hunter arrives, kicks ass, takes names, gets fun toys, slays evil, leaves. Maybe strips to bikini later, dunno. Lines of dialogue spoken = 0. noname

(In case I'm being too subtle, this is my innocuous way of saying I'm indifferent to the continuity, and firmly believe that less is more in the Metroid universe. Subtle, huh?)

I think the next Metroid story should start with Samus being tortured on some evil desolate planet. And throughout the game she has flashbacks which fill in the back story as to how she winded up in this predicament. The torture has left her weakened but she finally escapes custody to discover that her enemy tried to destroy her suit by many different methods and eventually blew it up which scattered her suit and her powers throughout the planet. First she needs to recover all the suit fragments and then she can get her revenge!!!

Samus trying to learn more about the Chozo . I know that the Prime series has touched upon the Chozo but a game that focused completely on them could be interesting.

They need to somehow include a plot of Samus confronting the confederation, I don't see how that would be possible in a Metroid game unless they decided to turn the next game into some sort of Mass Effect :/

I like the idea about the depth of story, but that seems hard to control.

I'm thinking reboot.

That would be best. The old fans barely number a million. What's the point of keeping it the same?

At this point Nintendo doesn't really have a choice. On a Nintendo level, Metroids sales are in the toilet :(.

it's either a story reboot, gameplay reboot or both.
