Forums - Sony Discussion - SCEE says no 120GB PS3 ..... for the UK

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has told GamesIndustry.biz that there are currently no plans to introduce a 120GB PlayStation 3 in the region.

Rumours are circulating that Sony America is due to launch a new model PlayStation 3 in the US, as stocks of the 80GB model begin to disappear from shelves.

Gaming blog Ars Technica has reported that a 120GB sku is due shortly – complete with DualShock 3 controller and retailing for the same price as the 80GB Spider-Man 3 bundle – although Sony has made no comment to confirm this.

However, if any 120GB unit is to be launched in North America, there's no such roll-out on the cards for Europe.

"We do not currently have any plans to release a 120GB PlayStation 3 in the UK," said a spokesperson for SCEE.

So, who's expecting an announcement of a new SKU any day now? These denials ... hmmm. Can't trust them anymore.

I wish I had a 120 GB drive in my PS3...

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

yep. 120g will be soon. For the sake of the price and people who will buy it, hope it has BC. I bet it will be identical to the 80g, except for the obvious hdd.

Seems pointless though. If I were sony I would drop to the 40g only, add software bc, and dual shock 3. All for the $399 price.

I mean what is the 360 breakdown between the sku's? Arcade probably like 20%, 70% for the premium, and 10% for the elite? I am not sure, but that is what I would guess.

So we will have a 120bg ps3 version in Europe too, they always say the opossite they do.

There really is no need to release another sku in the UK or Europe at all. The 40Gb model has really taken off and now that the games are coming thick and fast, people are slowly forgetting about BC.

Yes it would be nice to have quite a bit more storage, especially considering the new PlayTV addon that will be released this year that acts like a Sky+ Box.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Well, no matter the HDD size, I'll be putting in a WD 320GB anyways. It costs just a little more than one dualshock 3 pad after all...

has anyone seem an application form sony to the patent or trademark or whatever office they need to apply to in order for them to legally introduce a new sku? i remember people finding out about the 40g model that way a few weeks before the actual announcement.

if sony wants ps3 to be used as a media machine then it needs a bigger HDD. BC would be nice as would a ps3 that had all the features taken out of it put back in.

There was one... back in December, I think. There was some discussion about what it might be.

This new model probably won't be out until spring though, since that's the vague launch window for the DS3. There'll be plenty of time for a new FCC filing by then.

of course it's coming, but we all know they deny it until they can't anymore.. preferably the day before the launch.

I asked a Sony representative while working at Bestbuy, and the guy lied to me right in my face. so I've learned to NEVER listen to anything they say anymore.
