If you want to wait for official confirmation, go ahead. We'll keep discussing the rumors that keep popping up over and over and over again.

Go re-read the Kotaku article and they mention that this was barely activated 2 weeks ago so its not that hard to believe developers aren't aware of it yet. This is a negative feature and Microsoft  probalby didn't find it releavnt to tell people so far in advance.

Are they allowed to do that? If I spent a load of money on development only to hear they are doing something like this, I would be mad. It's like keeping the secret that the Nextbox is Canada exclusive or something, they should have to tell them about anything that could impact sales.

If this is a system-level thing, Microsoft probably  has full control over it. They might even change their minds by the time it launches. This could be the reason for the delay in the announcement, they don't know what the hell they're doing yet.

The question is do you have to just have an internet connection for the system to work or do you have to have XBOX Live for the system to work?

BOTH. Althoug you could have a Silver account, this would be the perfect way for Microsoft to push all their entertainment services on you, including XBL Gold.

MS Ninjas at work? Guess that rules out this being a mega troll then...damn

Maybe they will give people the option to have this. Like, people can turn on the option for keeping the Xbox always online or always on. So, people with no/bad internet can still use it.

Nope. Rumor mentions apps/gams won't start without an internet connetion. This isn't something you would let users opt-in and out of. It's DRM, everyone will have to deal with it.

I don't like this one bit. Just imagine they go on with this scheme and it PROVES SUCCESSFUL (weirdest things have happened!), I don't want this shit to become a standard for console gaming!!!!

Exactly. If a game is able to be played off-line, let people do it.  My computer works just fine without an internet connection and it doesn't stop me from using games/apps I already have.

And what if the Live Network is down for maintenance or whatever? I mean, it's happened before right? even for a few hours. Does that mean you can't play your games until the network is back up?

That's exactly what it means. I can see Anonymous targeting Microsfot if they go through with this. Imagine if the  next Xbox, which requires a connection to function, is unalbe to connect to Xbox Live because of a hacker attack?

Lol MS's creative director practically confirmed this. Or at the very least, heavily implying it.

It cant be successful, not yet.

A large number of 360 owners don't even have their console connected to the internet. Most people don't game online so they don't care to be connected to the web.
