So what exactly is this thread supposed to prove? Is it meant to show that Sony fans will punish developers for giving up exclusivity?

Are Sony fans really so petty that they would refuse to buy a good game just because it also came out on a rival system?

Don't know why you're getting huffy. One of my explanations was multiple console owners simply buying the game out of convenience of the console they play the most. Secondly, these games usually existed to sell consoles. A person who doesn't have to buy the console just buys it on the system they own. It's not sony fans not buying the games, it's people who COULD be buying the games on a sony platform buying them on something else INSTEAD.

It also affects hype. A game that is exclusive tends to get more hype. It's not the gamer punishing devs, they're just not getting as hyped and blitzed by media. Media loves exclusives, not multiplats, and best-friend gamers talk aboute xclusives too.

that makes no sense, if all those people who didnt buy say Tekken for 360 and instead bought it for PS3. Then the numbers still would be lower than Tekken 5. So what would you say then? That is even taking into account those xbox fans would have bought it anyway. Maybe they bought it on 360 because they have NO PS3 and was just happy to play it on something they have, it being exclusive would have lost Namco a sale or two. And no they werent spending money to buy a PS3 to play it.

I do think it was worth it. It depends wether Demon's Souls was moved by Havok or not; then they had the engine prepared and merely needed to polish it and then optimise for the other console.

What ?

I think you missed something. They were already familiar with the PhyreEngine on the PS3. They had to learn how to work with the engine from scratch for the 360.

The PC version was actually a point that says they wanted and expected more sales.

Oh, I thought the engine used was Havok!

Didn't know that about the PC version. But does that mean that they were unsatisfied of the sales, ot that they actually didn't do profit?

Havok is not a gfx engine. It's a physics engine.

I think my point about the crowds still stands:

-they failed to win back (with Dark Souls) a crowd that knew what they were getting themselves into when they bought Demon's Souls

-I doubt we will see an increase of the Xbox crowd with Dark Souls II since with Dark Souls there was a far bigger marketing campaign and Xbox fans even believed they were getting a Skyrim type game.

Wait when was Tomb Raider Playstation exclusive I remember playing it on my PC.

And seriously comparing MGR to MGS. That seems all sorts of wrong.

The Crash and Tekken games just decreased quality wise too much.

It never was. The original was also on Saturn.

I knew (s)he was twisting facts twowards Sony -.-

jesus christ
Actually you're right. Tomb Raider was originally released on Saturn and then ported a year later to PS. I guess that means all my examples are wrong now. Sigh.

Kinda, DMC 3 was available for PC as well

Games on PC don't tend to interrupt historical console games. We've always considered exclusive to mean console exclusive here on vgc...otherwise 360 wouldn't have any exclusives.

Well then you have considered it wrong. The title says Sony exclusives and not console exclusives, why would you exclude the PC from that?

And I know from other Threads people are making these Thread to make the 360 look bad compared to the PS3. And twisting facts they it pleases you just confirms that.

YOU WERE PRAISING A FALSE GOD.

Its an observation that I noticed early on in the gen as well.

PS2 was quite simply a beast when it came to software sales, it was more prominent that the 360 and PS3 in every single franchise with the only exception being Call of Duty.

However, a lot of these PS2 games simply haven't transitioned well this gen, exclusive or not, they still would have failed.

This is true, if one wants to ignore the multiple factors going into these games. install base has already been mentioned and genre has been mentioned.

Tekken 6 is seen as worst than 5 which is probably why it didnt do as well. (Scenario mode? the hell was that?) if it was exclusive it would have sold the same, because those who bought it on xbox would have bought it on PS3 and would have the same numbers. You could say the same for most these games

Crash sucked after ND stop developing it, that simple. People arent stupid they noticed the dip in quality.

KH you are comparing a main entry to what are essentially handheld spinoffs. it is unfair and a flawed comparison. not to mention there was a KH game released BEFORE KH2 came out on a non Sony system, so its more of an issue with people not wanting to play these games on handhelds

Persona4 you know this is wrong but youre going with it anyway. Nice, fighters are not that popular unless its Smash, SF, or MK.

katamari maybe

FF lets ignore how divisive ff13 was. IMHO it would have done worst, because people were not going to buy PS3s for what is seen as a mediocore game at best

MGS why compare main entries to spinoffs? makes no sense. of course people are not going to buy it, as an MGS fan. Im not getting it because for all intents purposes its not a MGS game. Its a hacknslash with MG paint on it.

GTA maybe

DMC the quality of the latter doesnt come close to DMC3. not even a contest.

TR one it was never really exclusive. so argument is already flawed. the first was released on PC and Saturn and the rest was released on PC. The game peaked at the sequel and it was downhill from their. It started sucking BEFORE the PS1 series even finished. and my god that PS2 game. The reboot is the fastest selling it has been in a while so not sure what you are getting at.

you have to remember that Square cut a MAJOR load of content from the ps3 version of FF13 to fit on 3 360 discs

FF13 would've been a better overall game

we will never know what FF13 was REALLY supposed to be like

but what's done is done

They would've sold if they were QUALITY

and Wipeout gets a pass because NOTHING really sold on Vita at the time. It probably would've did good if it released when Vita hit$ 199 worldwide
