Forums - Gaming - Do we buy exclusive games on our console of choice even if we don't want them?

I was thinking about buying Lego City Undercover today. A lot of people I know (fellow nintendo fans) have bought it, and are playing it. Then I realized something, I didn't want this game at all.

I wouldn't have even considered buying this game if it were on PS3 (a system I own).

So my question is do we buy exclusives to our console of choice even if we don't want them?

I realized that I disliked many of the exclusive games I've bought for a while. I hated Kirby's epic yarn, I hated Wii sports resort, I disliked Uncharted 3. I didn't even want these games, but I bought them based on the fact that I had them on MY system.

Even games like Xenoblade, a game I wasn't interested at the time of purchase, I bought because it was for my system. (don't worry, after playing the game I know it was  a good choice.)

If your a Sony fan, do you ever buy games that you don't even want to play? Are you disinterested in Uncharted, but buy it anyway? If Uncharted was offered across all platforms, would you still be buying it?

I totally understand what you are talking about. I, as a Sony fan, never got into Ratchet and Clank. I just don't like the characters at all and I remember a part of me thinking "damn, it's such a big name for Playstation, I feel kinda bad not liking it" but, millions of others do so that's alright. I never bought any of the games though.

Luckily I actually am interested in most of Sonys exclusives so I don't really find myself in that situation too often.

I only buy games I want to play at least a little, regardless of platform. Although that ends up being quite a lot and I don't play most of them due to time constraints.

I would never buy a game I don't have any interest in playing though. Why should I support something that doesn't interest me? I would be ashamed to have it in my collection. With corporations you vote with your wallet, why vote for a candidate you have zero interest in? It's only going to encourage more things you don't care about.

Welcome to the curse of every PC gamer... damn steam and their assholishly good sales ¬¬

You mean...I'm actually NOT a Nintendo fan and I only buy their games because they're Nintendo console exclusive?

I need to go think about this....

I know what you're talking about, when the first  Gears of War game came out that was what everyone that I knew was talking about. So I got game and found it out it was okay but nothing I could really get in to. I just ended up selling it to some guy, I didn't feel bad for doing it. It's just failed to impressed me.

I cant afford to buy games i dont want so i'll only buy games i really want or bargains i'm curious about when there's a lack of games i want and i feel the need for a new game.

i'll buy a game i want regardless of being multiplatform or exclusive, though since my tastes are so niche and jrpg oriented the majority of games i'll get are exclusive to my platform of choice.

but i do see what you mean, i see how that might happen and it's an interesting topic.

I don't buy games if I don't want them but if I see a lot of people prizing a game then I might consider it. that's how I bought Oot and Pikmin as well as Metroid Prime and recently Xenoblade and all of these games are amazing!

when devs say a game is a test game then I will for sure not buy it at all

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Didn't Monolith Soft say Xenoblade WAS an experiment?

Well, the majority of my games are multiplatform games, but that's not a reflection of preference - it just shows how prevalent multiplatform games are in comparison to exclusives. I thoroughly enjoyed the great majority of Sony's exclusive games, and the same goes for Nintendo's offerings (well, the non Wii fit type games). Of course there are a few I buy without vested interest, and there are a few I am either indifferent about or dislike, but the majority I genuinely want.

I probably would not have purchased the LEGO game. It doesn’t scream ‘buy me’, and I’m indifferent about those types of games.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
