Ouch. I really do want to check the series out though.

But it's hard to justify $50 for this when Animal Crossing comes out in June for $35

Do you have a PS2? There are cheap SMT games there and they're great. If not, there's also Strange Journey (DS) and Devil Survivor: Overclocked (3DS) which are OK priced. Also Devil Survivor 2 but an upgraded version is coming out for the 3DS.

If you can't justify a $40+ price tag, just wait for online price reductions. The games aren't going anywhere lol.

I'd take any SMT game over Animal Crossing but it's up to you. Soul Hackers is $40.

I've become cautious though. Fire Emblem has made the market incredibly stupid for previous games. Each major entry has had their price inflated 2x since Awakening released.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Atlus is my favorite developer after Intelligent Systems.

The price wont hurt the sales in my opinion, we fans will buy it at the price atlus ask :P

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

Considering its a niche game that wouldnt see light otherwise, i think the price is fair, 50€ is still affordable enough if the game is worth it, which seems to be the case.
Beyond 50€ im not buying anything though...

Are you thinking of Soul Hackers? This game is third person. Only the battles are first person. Soul Hackers comes out the 16th and is $40.

Also SMT IV is $50...but we're looking at a 50+ hour main story most likely (like Nocturne and Strange Journey), 100 Challenge Quests (sidequests), 400+ demons, a fast localization...not the worst game to be $50.

Other games offer a ton of product for less. I don't see why it has to be 50$.

OT: I was planning on jumping into this series seeing as how obsessed Soriku is with it and how I recently have wanted to broaden by RPG knowledge/collection/whatever.

Same. Too bad. Oh well AC will keep me busy for $35 till this drops in price or something.

And WWHD in August. Gah my summer's too busy.

AC as in Animal Crossing? It's only 35$?! Woot!

(I've checked out the trailer for this game and it really does look like something that would interest me... I just don't want to waste 50$ just in case.)

So, everybody wants new huge/epic games that cost a lot to develop and guarantee a playtime of most likely 50-100 hours, but don't want to pay 50$ for that?
By the way, the price in Japan will be 6980 Yen. Right now that's 75$.
The download version is still 6300 Yen.

Gamers in Japan would be pleased if everything was so "cheap" over here.

Don't get me wrong, I also think games are too expensive as a whole, but I find it amusing that people in one of the richest countries of the world complain most about game prices when their prices are among the lowest in the world (prices are considerably higher in Japan, Europe and Oceania).

It's 75$ in Japan? That's ridiculous! Even compared to most 3DS games in Japan, this cost is quite high, right?

But Ninpie is 14 and I'm a full-time student.

$$ is scarce.

Yes, that's one of the most expensive games here.
I think there might be a few even over 7000 Yen...

But those high prices are what makes all those games possible.
If all games have to be cheap, publishers sometimes just won't risk releasing quirky/weird games that Japan is so famous for.
