Forums - Gaming - Hayter: To hear another Snake voice 'makes me a little ill'

I have never been a fan of David Hayters VO work because it seemed the only direction / effort put into the voice was ''just copy Kurt Russell from Escape from New York''. The MGS fanbase, as clueless as they are have always amused me in their ignorance of this.

It sounds like Kiefer Sutherland is going to be playing Snake, he is a much better actor that Hayter and I for one am looking forward to this new change, something that should have been implemented in the franchise long ago.

But let me guess, MGS fans don't even know who Kiefer Sutherland is do they???

April Fools/Kojima Trolling

"A little ill" as in Snake being ill , the voices that were on the game were obvious placeholder material, one of them actually sounded like he recorded his voice with a phone mic.

So Kojima would go through all the trouble to hire a Hollywood actor just to be used as a placeholder...I rest my case about MGS fans being clueless.

I hope that Hayter is going to be Solid Snake in future installments and that he was not included because Kojima wants to move a in a different direction specifically with regards to Big Boss.

However, it's kind of shady that David Hayter had to get the news through the media and not directly from Kojima or whoever takes care of that within the Konami/Kojima Productions. If Kojima is trying to go another direction for the future of Metal Gear as a whole and just doesn't see Hayter as a viable part of that ecosystem, I'll be pretty disappointed. Metal Gear is one of my favorite series and I credit Hayter as being a big part of the experience that has impacted me so.

Still, if someone were to hear Solid Snake's gruff voice for the first time, they might find the acting a little campy/borderline cheesy. I am not trying to be flamebait here, but as much as I enjoy Hayter's portrayal and can't separate his voice and Solid Snake's visage, if Kojima is trying to make this bigger and closer to Hollywood standards level of voice acting and production, he might perceive Hayter's voicework as somewhat silly for a new audience. Hope that's not the case, but if it is, I get it.

Hayter's gonna hate.

I saw you post this from lightyears away.

This made me sad. :( I hope it's fake. I've grown so used to his voice since the PS1 game, and MGS2 more or less burned it in my memory forever. Hideo better sort this shit out. :/ The only 'Snake" I'm willing to hear Hayter less is Liquid. He changed Liquid's voice in MGS4 by keeping CC out of it, so I won't doubt this switch is real too. I REALLY preferred CC, but I understood why the change was necessary given Liquid's role in the game. It just made sense, but this doesn't make sense to me. :/

I have mixed feelings. On one hand Hayter has always been Snake and his voice is very recognisable, but on the other he has become worse with every iteration. He was great in MGS and terrible in PW. A new actor may bring a wider range to the character, but at the same time it'll be odd hearing someone else as Snake. In any case it's a day 1 for me, I'll see if I get used to it.

Between this and MGS5 not being PS4 or at least next gen exclusive, I don't care much for this.

Pretty ridiculous that you dont care because it is no longer exclusive *rolls eyes*

I'm pretty sure he means that because it isn't exclusive to next gen (hence the "next gen exclusive"), and thus will be dialed down for current gen, he is disappointed.

He says PS4 then he says or next gen exclusive.

Does he mean he isn't interested becase it's not on next gen? That's how it came off to me, and not it losing its exclusivity on Sony consoles. Like AC IV which is cross gen or at least exclusive to next gen like Killzone SF (PS4 but not PS3). If so then I don't see a big deal with that since a lot of people are expressing similar sentiments, but then again, it makes much more sense to keep it on current gen than next gen (financially). Plus, Fox engine looks GREAT.

Publishers who have gone multiplat this gen:
EA
Capcom
Squeenix

I rest my case

No one's being clueless. Kiefer has a great voice, but it's not snake. They could of used Kiefer for a villain. Doesm't matter who Kojima would choose over Hayter, it's still not the same.
