I stand by it.

Well then that's your opinion you don't have to state it as a fact...even though the first two halo games are my favourite FPS games of all time.

Halo has had stronger prequels than many other IPs. This is a fact!

I mean ODST, Reach, and Wars! All awesome.

ODST isn't a prequel and Halo: Wars was nothing special, sales-wise, for a Halo game (though it was for an RTS). Outside of that, Reach is the best example, but still didn't launch at the end of the gen, has a MUCH bigger following than either Gears or GoW, and saw more marketing than the both of them combined.

That's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

ODST took place during Halo 2's campaign but was released after Halo 3. Halo Wars was a great RTS, respectable sales for the genre. Reach is the best example, but the others are still valid.

I'm just saying... Halo knows how to handle a prequel.

Not really.  Halo has been successful regardless of prequel, without main character, genre, etc  Where as not every game can do that which includes GoW and Gears.    ALthough both will sell great in the end it just shows you how successful Halo really is.  And even if Gears and GoW would have got a lot of ads they still would not have been as good critically.

Update Gears Judgement reaches 1 million in it's 3rd week.

Like i said in the other thread that it was a shame VGchartz dont track Digital Sales, because Gears of War: Judgment 1.05m could have been added to Gears Of War 6.00m.

You guys having fun yet?

Anyways I've got almost all my achievements outside of beating this on insanity. Ugh.

It's just that simple.

I guarantee that God of War: Ascension is doing much better than Vgchartz's estimates and is well ahead of Gears of War: Judgment. The figures for the USA don't make any sense with the bundles, promotions, high position on online bestseller lists in Walmart/Gamestop/Target/Amazon/BestBuy etc. Also Vgchartz assumes that because it's not doing very well in the UK then it isn't doing well in Europe overall, which is bollocks. GoW3 may have been a lot more popular in the UK than GoW:A but it wasn't insanely popular there and so Vgchartz estimated that it only sold 1.1m in Europe when Sony announced it was actually at 2m in EU (yes sell-in, but when a game's been out for 2+ years the deference between sell-in and sell-through is negligible). I believe the same thing is happening with God of War: Ascension ant it's doing a lot better than Vgchart's estimates suggest. There was no hype for Gears:J, no bundles, no great promotions and it's doing nowhere near as well in the bestsellers lists on all the big retailers sites. NPD will prove me right for US sales but we'll only know the absolute truth about Europe when Sony announce official figures.

And the Halo comparison is stupid. Halo: Reach's development and marketing budget was probably double that of GoW:A & GeoW:J combined. They had more time and money to make sure nothing was cut, it could be as polished as possible and to make sure everyone knew about its release with amazing advertisement, which is why it sold so well. A God of War or Gears of War game with the same budget & marketing campaign could sell just as well as a Halo game.

But, not a God of War nor Gears has not been successful thus far. Halo's also never been tested like the two of them were (never had a prequel released at the end of gen with minmial marketing, in Gear's case), for instance. Thus, the comparison is grasping at best.

I know people are blaming the end of the gen but i think that is a complete bs excuse (Not mad here). If that was the case then Halo 4 wouldn't be at 8.07m already or how about Call of duty black Ops 2 which has already sold 21m on PS3/360.  Even assassin's Creed III is killing the numbers.

The main reason these games are not selling as well is because they are not as good as the previous games in the series, stale gameplay, and the stories was unappealing for both.  I mean really what else was there to tell with Kratos?  And  i dont think people care about Bairds story either.  They are still both selling well but when I said months ago that neither one would  break 4m and I was skeptical of them reaching 3 million people said i was wrong.

I will say congrats to both for doing well for spinoffs and prequels but other than that I don't think there is some story to not being as successful as the previous installments.

And that comparison also is meaningless. Halo 4 was a sequel with anything but minimal advertising. People were dying for it, while nobody asked for prequels to God of War and Gears. It also released before we got wind of next gen consoles from either Microsoft or Sony.

Halo 4 sold 9 thousand less than GoWA this week.  a 21 week old game compared to a 4 week old game with more recent ads.

EDIT: 8000

I'm seeing the relevance there. Sequel vs prequel, not to mention, the former being from a 9-nearly-12 million selling franchise, vs one that's never sold even 5 million.

Isn't that what I said in the first place that Halo is a bigger franchise?   That was the point in the entire comparison that Halo is bigger and regardless if a prequel or genre it still sells well.
