doubt it Nintendo has too much money to just fall, if the WiiU fails them they still have 3DS to support

yeah cause ps 4 will have 152 million units sold xD their design isn't childish with 10 different colours or even colour buttons. we don't even know what they try with their franchises besides pikmin 3. the gamepad looks fine too me personally, the console itself is also pretty solid, not a fucking cube. i don't get your thinking to be honest. yes of course the ouya launches, steambox. but ouya is hardley a threat to the market. the ps 4 doesn't have the dvd appeal to it.

Plus PS4 is losing the PS2's advantage that is often most overlooked: the 1 year head-start. If PS4 is to utterly defeat the Wii U, it will have to Dreamcast it. Otherwise we'd be looking at a PS3 vs 360 situation, where they're eternally working to overcome the headstart.
Really, releasing first is one of the most potent strategies, with the only danger being releasing too early (the Turbografx16 against the still mighty NES, the 3DO and Jaguar when SNES and Genesis still had 2 good years ahead of them, ditto for Dreamcast against PS1 and N64), but this generation ran too long, so the Wii U has that on its side.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It's funny 'cos Nintendo are the ONLY ones consistently profiting vastly from every gen. Unlike both Sony and Microsoft, who -even though PS3 and X360 are profitable right now- have lost billions on their gaming divisions, overall. |
This can't be stated often enough around here (apparently). On a site that has it's focus on numbers some people just don't look at the numbers. People seem to forget that despite all the rhetoric the Videogame industry is not actually a giant dick-swinging contest, it's about making profit. Nintendo doesn't need to, or necessarily care about coming first, it cares about having a profitable device.
Someone needs to post that earnings by year graph (again).

I dont think so.
They might not lose money since Wii U isnt as expensive to make as other systems like PS4, but they are missing out on a generation.

I'm assuming you mean 3rd part stuff? Well when I buy a Wii U it won't be for 3rd party stuff it will be for exclusives. I don't think people realise the potential line up they have for late 2013/2014
-Windwaker HD, Mario Kart (will be massive) , Mario 3D, Supersmash bros U, Project X, Retro studio title and then a few lessor titles like yoshi and fire emblem. The Wii U will go on to sell another 30-40m units I'm sure and in my eyes that can still considered a success, especially if they start selling the system for profit in 2014 (price cut included).
| Th3PANO said: don't try to compare this to the gamecube days. first of all. they competed against the highest selling (till 2012) consol, the ps2. they had a new rivale, the xbox. the console design and controller design was also not very appealing to many people. their games of their franchises were all new tries (sunshine, starfox adventures, metroid prime, wind waker, double dash, luigi's mansion, eternal darkness, etc.). these games were all good but many didnt like it cause they expected something different after the n64 era. |
Surely it is worse right now? I mean they are doing pretty badly with no competition at all, won't it be more difficult when the other consoles come out?

GCN Wii 3DS Wii U will fail and Nintendo will leave the market!
Blimey, not another one. This gen is more likely to finish Sony. Having 8GB of GDDR5 and a GPU pushing 1.8TFlops is a mistake. The PS4 is going to be much more expensive than the other two and when we're in the middle of the worst worldwide recession we've seen in donkey's years that's NOT a good thing.
Both the PS4 and 720 are going to be more expensive than the Wii U and the Wii U will have a year's head start, a probable price cut and the releases of a 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8.
