Do you feel the Zelda franchise need to end or go on?

End the series, it had a good run. 20 12.50%

Go on with the series. 140 87.50%

Total:160

I can understand if someone disagree with me on this but, I felt Zelda: Skyward Sword should have been the final game of the franchise. It did a good job explaining the origin of the master sword, the creation of Hyrule, the creation of Ganondorf and the Timeline was explain during the 25 anniversary. I don't know about you, but after beating the game and reading the official timeline, I felt this was the perfect and fitting end to the franchise, like Toy Story 3 for example.

Any Zelda game at this point will sort of feel like milking the franchise. I'm all for a new Zelda, as long they respect the series. If it was up to me, I would end the series with Skyward Sword and work on a new IP.

As new consoles release this year, I feel it's time Nintendo, Sony and other deveplors need to break away from their safety net and come up with new IPs, bring old IPs and give them a fresh new take of the market, like Kid Icarus or the new Dante. This is another reason why I feel the Zelda series need to end, as scary it is to take chances to innovate and create a new IPs, if you stay with the same formula, people slowly begin to lose interest and the sales begin to take a hit. Skyward Sword was a great game, but the sales didn't reach the numbers compare to Twilight Princess or Mario Galaxy. Knack is a good start with Sony' and look forward to other new IPs they invest in, same with Dillon Rolling Western (Nintendo latest IP) its a series with great potinal.

That's something I can respect with Bungie on how they ended the Halo series, even though Microsoft didn't want the franchise to end, and move on to a newIP (Destiny).

What your take on this?  :)

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

I think a lot of people would be outraged if they don't make a new zelda. Even if they want to finish the franchise it will be difficult to justify it to the fans.

Nah.

How can they finish it, there three timelines, they'll need three more zelda games to end the series.

The beauty of all the Zelda saga is that all of it's games are in a different timeline, they can keep making all the games they want because even if there are 200 games they will all be separated by hundreds or thousands of years which means every game CAN be different because is not directly tied to the previous one.

This topic just feels like it's trying to be nice in saying "I think Zelda is dead", tbqh.

Ending a saga with a prequel is never good, trust me. You put the example of Halo:Reach as a good way to end a saga, but that was possibly the worst Halo game to date - singleplayer, I mean -. Toy Story 3 is a sequel, and that's a good way to end a saga.

The developers should not be afraid of trying new IPs, but of course. But that does not mean they can't rely on established IPs. Nintendo is more than capable of releasing a new Zelda and releasing like two or three new IPs (I mean, IPs with franchises in mind) during this new generation of gaming. It's a matter of convenience, and will. Don't confuse sales with success. There are plentiful of successful games out there that did not reach the numbers they should have.

Something we don't agree is in the "take a fresh approach" to things. The New Dante or Kid Icarus is not a new IP in my opinion. It is relying on an established franchise to see if you can create the same games with new appeal.

I wouldn't want to see the end of The Legend of Zelda...ever. Each game is just too good to let the series end. Nintendo successfully has hooked me up :D

Yep, let's kill the goose that lays the golden eggs and dump one of our major franchises, that sounds like a great idea when our new home console is stalling and we desperately need system-selling games.

of course they should go on with the series

SS was amazing and I can't wait for the next Zelda
