Forums - Gaming - How important is Bayonetta 2 for WiiU's potential for future 3rd party game development?

badgenome said:

Not very. Just like with the Wii, the third party situation was decided before the generation began.

If Bayonetta 2 does sell well Nintendo might be encouraged to do more publishing of third party games, though.

That's what I'd like to see.

A big focus no their own content and a strategic focus on buying certain exclusives and making sure they are top "Nintendo" quality.

LEGO City

Bayonetta 2

and we'll see where it goes from there.

That being said I don't plan on getting the PS3 version of Bayonetta 1 either because of the apparent issues with the port.

May I remind that Sony sent ninjas over Platinum offices to resolve the issue with the unexpected solution of... a simple HD install. I platinumed the game and never had a single issue with it. If this is what is really keeping you from getting for the PS3, I say there is no issue and go ahead without any worry. The game is one of the best hack n' slashes around and I plan to play B2 some way or another, legally or illegally.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I was going to pick up a Wii U for Bayonetta 2 but with the massive lack of support I think i'm going to hold out for a long time. Probably until the next Xeno hits.

This is what I'm thinking too. Bayonetta 2, that Xeno game, Lego City are the games I'm mostly interested in and I'm hoping by the end of the year it will have a couple more cool titles. I'm not a big Nintendo fan so having Pikmin and possibly a Zelda remake and Mario kart does nothing for me...nice additions, but not something to get me to buy a console.

If wonderful 101 and bayonetta do well id like to see nintendo buy platinum games, retro/monolith/platinum cpuld be the new rare

Great to know! I haven't played it cause I'd rather play it on X360 (which I haven't got yet), but if it's ok, than I'll get it for my PS3. So what exactly do I have to do to play it ok? Buy on PSN or buy regular retail game and install? Is it a voluntary or mandatory install? How does it work?

I think that there is a chance for Wii U to get 3rd party support, just not from the biggest companies. The dev costs for PS4/X720 will grow once again and many developers won't be able to afford making games on these platforms. Still, they could afford making games for Wii U on the good old Unreal Engine 3 for example. Well, for Wii U/PS3/X360 to be exact, but the role of PS360 will dimish when PS4/X720 take over, hence Wii U could have a chance to be the dominant platform for such games. I think it would be cool. Wii got a few good games this way (Cursed Mountain devs for example said that low dev costs for the Wii were the reason they made the game exclusive for Wii).

The thing is... you know... you guys have got to start buying those bloody games!! If the only games that sell on Wii U are ones with Mario or Miis on the cover, there is no hope. Bayo 2 has to sell big time, as is W101 and pretty much every single other big exclusive 3rd party game. Let's hope ZombiU has legs, cause the way it's been selling so far isn't excouraging...

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Man, you got me there. I can't remember if the install is mandatory or not, it has been so long. But I mean, PS3 comes with an harddisc so it isn't an issue right? You put the game and if it is mandatory you just wait for the installation to occur after you boot the game, like any other game. If the install is optional, in the XMB you press triangle over the Bayonetta Disc and in the little menu there will be the option for "install". It takes no more of 5GBs if I remember correctly.

I personally think 400.000 for a new IP is rather good. Especially when its a mediocre game rushed to death and full of glitches. There're a ton of games also not selling on PS360 but it's almost like nobody blames them. Only when their games sell bad on Nintendo consoles it's suddenly their fault.

It has already sold 400k? Thought it was worse. That's not that bad, but I think it should do a bit better. Even 600k would look much better. I mean, it may not be all that awesome, but it is the only single core game on the platform... And it got hyped quite a bit. If I bought a Wii U right now, this is the first game I'd play. LEGO City would be the second one.

It's not an issue, just didn't know how to do it. This triangle menu can be a solution, thanks for this!

Pretty big deal actually, I predict it will boost japanese and american console sales by 50K each.
I also predict 150K for the first week overall for Bayonetta 2, and 500k lifetime, huge for a 3 million console install base.

Um...its mostly westerners who buy hack n slash games. The Japanese support it...barely.

Bayonetta will never be Nintendo quality. Nintendo doesn't make arcade style titles (sega always did). It will be a bit above what you're used to from Segas publishing. Bayonetta should not be considered synonymous with Nintendo outside of this game because the character is very sexual, which means Nintendo is making a valid effort to go after the older hack n slash fans. I dont think Nintendo aims to overcommercialize how sexual she is because their main target is still children and families.
