Forums - Gaming - Epic confirms: Unreal Engine 4 is NOT coming to Wii U

i don't get your logic. wii had no unreal engine, so how should this cut it deep when there isn't anything to cut.

Actually Wii had Unreal Engine games:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games

But as you can see no publisher of a bigger game decided to port their UE3 game to the UE2 engine only to release it on the Wii. And that's going to happen again. Either all versions are all developed with UE3 and WiiU could get it or it's developed with UE4 and WiiU won't get it.

Honestly this is a big deal

No Unreal Engine 4 support
No Frostbite 3 support

What exactly IS going to be coming out for Wii U other than 1st party software?

Both are going to be the most used NextGen Engines probably.
Especially Unreal Engine 4 will be as much used as the UE3 in this Gen.

If Developers dont want to put extra effort in porting it over to the UE3 the WiiU will probably miss out on half of the Games.

I said i will  buy a cheap WiiU only for Zelda,Xenoblade 2 and maybe a Mario Game and it will probably stay like this cause the console won't get anything else cause every Developer and most Engines are ignoring the console.
Means no Exclusive Deals for games with those Engines especially with the UE4 cause this is a cheap engine everyone could have afforded.
And that on the beginning of its life cycle before PS4 and NextBox are even out.

This is noting more than Western developers showing hate to Nintendo.

If U4 can run on low-spec PCs, there is no reason it cannot run on th WiiU.
And if UE3 is for WiiU, then why does Epic list every platform but ones by Nintendo for developers to check when seeking information.

(Both of these come from Epic's website, by the way.)

And the unprofessionalism in this industry is sickening. If people wonder why gaming is not taken seriously, the developers need to look at themselves in the mirror.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

These people laugh at Nintendo, and then folks wonder why Nintendo fans hate them all.

This makes me glad so many of them lose work so easily.

I'm not upset by UE4 not coming to the Wii U, but the way Rein answered the question, and later "clarified", was unnecessary. I never did jump on the "3rd parties hate Nintendo" bandwagon, but I definitely feel something odd about this.

I will keep buying Nintendo consoles for their exclusive like I always have. Considering I own multiple consoles not having a multiplat doesn't effect me at all. Besides if you enjoy Nintendo exclusive more than 3rd party multiplats you would still need the Wii U.

Does it suck that Nintendo isn't going to get multiplats? Yes
Does it effect me or anyone who loves Nintendo games? Nope (unless Nintendo goes under, which will never happen)

It does effect you though.

Do you honestly think shareholders will be happy with Gamecube or N64 level sales after the Wii?  Having terrible 3rd party support does hurt the console big time.  People talk about how huge Mario and Zelda are but they werent able to raise Nintendo to high console sales on their own.

Its increasingly looking like Wii U is the next GameCube, not the next Wii

I'd argue in this case, developers are treating the WiiU much more like its predecessor than the GameCube. The Cube, at least, got some pretty hefty, exclusive 3rd party support at one point.

This whole mess is a little bit of everyone's fault. Nintendo, 3rd parties, and the Wii's own fanbase for not supporting many non-Nintendo titles as good as Sony and Microsoft's fanbases did in similar situations..

Never, ever, ever blame the fanbase.

Ever. Third parties fail because they're failures. Plan and simple.

Well yes.....what else was going to happen? You can't make a pig fly no matter how hard you try. The WiiU specs obviously can't run Unreal 4 so yet again the Nintendo console will be stuck with Nintendo only games and few to no multiplatformers..

Unreal engine 4 can scale down to phones. Try again.

Why do you expect games like that to buy on Wii U anyway? I got a PC for that, Wii U for the unique japanese games.

What do you think happens to Wii U sales if it doesn't get mainstream third-party titles?

Ok, I might as well jump in and ask, what people think this means for the Wii U and next gen.  Which of these?

* Companies won't use the UE4 so that their stuff will work with the Wii U.

* Companies will license BOTH the UE3 and UE4 and develop on both so that they end up on the Wii U and also the other consoles.

* The Wii U won't get any support of content using the UE4.

As I mentioned the way he approached things was unprofessional.

It is however a double edge sword because as I said it may make Nintendo listen and do something proactive (either expand or moneyhat).

But at the same time I agree that stunts like this may or will piss off the fan base. The one thing they all forget is that most Wii owners have multiple consoles to compensate for the lack of 3rd party support on Wii. If they act unprofessional long enough and kick people in the guts then they will simply not purchase their games on other systems too.
