Forums - Gaming Discussion - Software Will Not Boost Wii U Hardware Sales

I think people are sorely missing OP's point.

OP isn't saying that Wii U won't get a hardware boost from software because it most certainly will. What the OP is saying is that in the long run Nintendo's 1st party support alone, as great as it may be, won't be enough to rival the massive library of games the PS4/720 will get from 1st party and 3rd party combined, because at this point 3rd parties aren't really supporting Wii U (doesn't seem like they will in the future either) and thus 3rd part software also becomes de facto exclusives for PS4/720. Thus this will lead to most consumers choosing PS4/720 over Wii U because of better hardware and more software.

Why does that matter?  How many people own multiple consoles? (answer: a lot!) The tpyical gamer today has the means to own more than one console.  With a competitive price and enticing titles, WiiU can do well.  Right now it has neither.

This list of "great software" for the PS4 doesn't do much for me.  There are a handful that interest me, but most I'll pass on.  WiiU has more interesting games... though without release dates.  Will I own a PS4?  Likely. (when depends on price)  Will I get a WiiU?  Also likely.  PS4/Durango will offer 95% the same boring crap they offered this gen....short shooter/action games with pretty graphics that sell well but are soon forgotten when the next shiny toy comes along. (despite that I own and really like my ps3...I just don't play what most people play on it)

Are you seriously asking what kind of Nintendo software can push hardware sales?

You must be new to the industry. Maybe you've never heard of the Wii, a console that outsold its competitors on the strength of Nintendo's software alone. Nintendo near-single-handedly carried the Wii to 100 million sales. Suddenly their games are going to be unable to sell any significant number of Wii Us?

lol thread is lol worthy

You're completely correct: that is his underlying, poorly expressed, horribly supported point. Of course, even if the thesis proves correct, the way he got there, and the reality he perceives, are both suspect.

Lol. Okay...do me a favor. Save this thread in your bookmarks, and come back to it after Thanksgiving weekend 2013. Wii U will sell like gang-busters, and I think it will out-sell the other two consoles from Microsoft and Sony. I will come back after that weekend too and will be sure to mention that I told you so.

If you're right, feel free to bumb this topic then but no chance I'm going to remember to check that on my own.  Anyway, I don't know if I fully agree with that.  Microsoft's new console is a wildcard which I can't really predict.  The PS4 has pretty good buzz going.  It's really a matter of what Sony can produce and if Nintendo will be strong enough in the "casual" (ugh I hate the term) sector to outdo Sony's advantage in the "hardcore" (that one too) sector.

Yes. The underlying point is overstepping bad. He is assumming that ps4 wont cant have problems out the gate. He's assuming everybody wants those games. He's assuming Bayonetta 2 wonderful 101 isnt a system seller. worst yet he' s assuming we faithful arent using Wii U 100% more than anything else. Fail bad.

If you believe that the Wii U is going to ride a wave of first-party games into the first place of sales in this generation, you are miserably wrong.

Please realize that those casual gamers who initially bought the Wii aren't necessarily going to be swayed by Zelda or Mario (which are not really targeted to casual gamers are they?)

Overall, the Wii sold MUCH less in terms of games per console. People were buying it for Wii Sports and some dance games.

Oh, that explains why Mario Kart Wii sold 33.55 million copies!  And why New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold 26.75 million!  And why Super Smash Bros. Brawl sold 11.58 million, or Super Mario Galaxy selling 10.76 million for that matter.  No Dance game sold more than any of those games I mentioned (of which, none were Wii Sports or Wii Fit games).  By your argument, I could confidently say that most people ONLY bought a PS3 to play Call of Duty games because no game that wasn't produced by Activision AND had Call of Duty in the title has EVER broken 10 million sold on PS3.  In fact, if you look at software sales, PS3 has sold the LEAST amount of software by far of the three consoles (almost 100 million behind 360, and almost 200 million behind Wii !).

The Wii is being considered an anomaly and what is being said is that although 1st party software will get decent sales, Wii U is not going to be able to keep first place this gen and go back to how Nintendo performed before Wii.

Anyway this is of course nothing but a prediction and given the gaming industry's tendencies of taking crazy turns, I wouldn't be 100% sure on anything. Maybe 3rd partis will all abandon the PS4/720 next year and start developing only for the Wii U.

That's not the OP's point. You not only have word it better, but have actually put some non partisan arguments behind your point.

He's using the same old "true gamers" "true next gen" terms and really do not provide some serious backing to his arguments. I only see in the op "WiiU does not have, and will never get the games that I like, so I hope it doesn't succeed"

Some things in life do not need to be the best, they manage to be just fine financially and find their niche outside of first place. An Arsenal supporter should understand this.

lulz, you showed sony first party titles in your list. that's just funny.

Wattttt? Wii U wont have Killzone? It wont have Infamous?

Did you really put that in the OP. Guess in your logic then PS4 is DOOOOOOOMED O.o

PS4 wont get

⇒SSB4
⇒MKU
⇒Wii U Sports
⇒SMG3
⇒DK
⇒Zelda WW HD
⇒Zelda (oh yes)

and worse of all...... It Wont Have...... Mario Party 10
