The lack of these big-name 3rd party titles is what killed the Wii.(Of course Nintendo had some part in this as well)

Even though Wii U is getting some big games such as AC and Watch Dogs, its still missing some major franchises. The ones it did get didn't sell very well at launch so I think the future of 3rd party support for Wii U won't be much different than that of the Wii.

Wii was the best selling console till 2010 without any of these big-name 3rd party titles. What killed it was the fact that after 2010, Nintendo stopped supporting it.

The lack of the biggest, most popular titles out there caught up with the Wii. People weren't going to continue purchasing a console that lacks a ton of good games. People keep saying Nintendo has lost the casual audience but looking at sales of Wii games last year, what sold the most last year? Just Dance 4. I say Nintendo lost and has been losing that "core" gamer for years.

The biggest, and most popular games lol? Do me a favor go look up the best selling games, and its all Nintendo and Call of Duty games. Your ill informed, and don't what your talking about.

Just look at the recent PS3/360 releases. Bioshock Infinite, Metal Gear Rising, Dead Space 3, DmC...etc..etc. Wii U still lacking major releases.
Even the Wii got COD, although a gimped version. Nintendo software only sells in the tens of millions when the hardware is selling that way. Wii U isn't selling well and that will reflect in software sales. Dont' expect the Wii U versions of Mario Kart, Wii Fit U, Smash Bros...etc to match the Wii versions. Not by a long shot.

SSB4 might pass SSBB on 3DS O.o! Well Maybe, its a Handheld, we yet to see wat it can do in sales(japan should definitely do better

Isn't a big part of Smash Bros the local multiplayer? I don't see the 3DS version taking away many sales from the console version, but considering the install base it'll probably sell more. I don't see the new Smash Bros selling 10m+ on 3DS though LOL. That is a ridiculous prediction....

watttt? 2 things, 1. People want online, but are forced with local multiplayer. Look at Mario Kart for Ex. Played only locally for over a decade then MK wii came out! See? Now 2. im not saying it will but you have no guarantee it wont sell over 10mil. It could go anywhere between 4mil-12mil. Who knows? We never had a SSB on a handheld B4. Also there's a chance its not going to be some cross play title only. It can be an entire different game than the console version! It was stated that you'll be able to customize your characters or something on the lines of that. Just saying it can do 4mil lifetime, or maybe reach up to 10mil? Maybe more maybe less. No one is certain.

Saying it will do 10m is a a little far-fetched don't you think? Even 4m would be difficult to reach considering we don't know how much demand there is for a portable Smash Bros.

oh yes, i agree its far-fetched as well. We dont kno anything about how the fighter will do on Handheld. If i had to predict i say 4-5mil. But thats just based on nothing. 10mil seems unlikely but to say impossible. Its going to be an interesting thing to see though. Fighting genre games dont sell well at all with the best 3 being SSBB/Tekken(forgot which one)/SSBM. But Like i said there's nothing to base on. No matter wat though the game will sell millions (its SSB lol)!

Software will not boost Wii U hardware, this is true. Not because of the games themselves, but because historically software does NOT push long-term hardware sales.

Big-name franchises can move some systems when they launch, but that's a very fleeting increase. And I'll grant that the strength of the software can help maintain high sales following a price cut...but they are rarely, if ever, the cause for a long-term sales boost.

are you kidding me? Then wat the hell did Wii Fit/Wii Sports Resort/SSBB/SMG+SMG2/MKWii/NSMBWii do? Next time think before you post , yesterday day just proved to anybody supporting this thread they were wrong wii u got games in US, and it went up 300%! Thats called Software boosting up Hardware buddy.

"long-term hardware sales."

Next time, read before you post.

Ummm Hellooooo? They are LONG-TERM hardware sales Software. Next time think b4 you post

Probably going to regret going to all of this effort, but...

Okay, now point at the graph and tell me where the long-term sales boost is.

O.o They all had major spikes but do you really expect them to sell the same number of hardware every week? Like EX SSB comes out hardware goes to 300k instead of normal 130k, then the next week to stay at 300k? No game does that, but it did have an impact on hardware for long term, not the major spike but overall yes. Wat are you trying to say? That wen a game comes out tne hardware has to stay at where the spike is?

Sooooooo... if VGChartz numbers are accurate, sales jumped 196% in the US, 118% in the UK, and doubled in Europe. Games are released and sales spike... What a coincidence.

The funny thing is Wii U sales have almost doubled from these games and the retailer price drops, and yet it still is selling terribly.  What will matter is if these sames continue 2 more weeks in a row.

That's not the point, as the OP clearly states that "software will not boost Wii U hardware sales", which was proved wrong by the massive increase(percentage-wise) in sales after two third-party releases(you know, software).

dont wrry bout him, he'll never listen. He got proved wrong and then moves on to the next excuse. Like this⇒ Software dont push hardware[proved false]⇒It only pushed a little, software wont give WiiU any major jump[will be proving false]⇒(Super Mario Galaxy 3 comes out)Only 1 Title, got Lucky!!!!! lmao

Right here.

With all those ups and downs, it might be easy to forget that the Wii outsold its competitors for 4 years. And had a nice, normal, heathly sales curve for a game console. You know, peaking in its third year and falling steadily after that.
