Forums - Gaming Discussion - Software Will Not Boost Wii U Hardware Sales

I don't really give a shit if it comes first or not. People need to get that goddamned chip off their bitter shoulders. The wii u can still be a success without coming first. Besides, people were saying the vita was gonna piss all over the 3ds as well and look how that ended up (and dont gimme any of that 'its a different market' crap...it's still the same fanbase or lack of. And it's also an example of how a seemingly superior console can be doa)
Don't assume everyone likes tough guy games either. We're not all hick truck drivers. I'm sick of all the 'oh ps4 is gonna be so bad-ass' cos all the cool shooting games are coming to it crap. I don't play games so i can sneer at others, or feel like I'm tougher. I play em cos I enjoy em (on any console!). This is real high school 'im cooler than you' mentality stuff. You're convinced the ps4 is gonna win next gen? Good for you, if it makes you sleep better congratulations and I wish you well with your ambitions.
And I'm not being biased. I will most probably buy a ps4 (as I have the last 3 sony consoles) and was actually looking forward to it but the outspoken fanbase is really starting to piss me off and put me off cos I don't wanna be associated with them.

Sooooooo... if VGChartz numbers are accurate, sales jumped 196% in the US, 118% in the UK, and doubled in Europe. Games are released and sales spike... What a coincidence.

The funny thing is Wii U sales have almost doubled from these games and the retailer price drops, and yet it still is selling terribly.  What will matter is if these sames continue 2 more weeks in a row.

Software will not boost Wii U hardware, this is true. Not because of the games themselves, but because historically software does NOT push long-term hardware sales.

Big-name franchises can move some systems when they launch, but that's a very fleeting increase. And I'll grant that the strength of the software can help maintain high sales following a price cut...but they are rarely, if ever, the cause for a long-term sales boost.

are you kidding me? Then wat the hell did Wii Fit/Wii Sports Resort/SSBB/SMG+SMG2/MKWii/NSMBWii do? Next time think before you post , yesterday day just proved to anybody supporting this thread they were wrong wii u got games in US, and it went up 300%! Thats called Software boosting up Hardware buddy.

The lack of these big-name 3rd party titles is what killed the Wii.(Of course Nintendo had some part in this as well)

Even though Wii U is getting some big games such as AC and Watch Dogs, its still missing some major franchises. The ones it did get didn't sell very well at launch so I think the future of 3rd party support for Wii U won't be much different than that of the Wii.

Wii was the best selling console till 2010 without any of these big-name 3rd party titles. What killed it was the fact that after 2010, Nintendo stopped supporting it.

The lack of the biggest, most popular titles out there caught up with the Wii. People weren't going to continue purchasing a console that lacks a ton of good games. People keep saying Nintendo has lost the casual audience but looking at sales of Wii games last year, what sold the most last year? Just Dance 4. I say Nintendo lost and has been losing that "core" gamer for years.

The biggest, and most popular games lol? Do me a favor go look up the best selling games, and its all Nintendo and Call of Duty games. Your ill informed, and don't what your talking about.

Just look at the recent PS3/360 releases. Bioshock Infinite, Metal Gear Rising, Dead Space 3, DmC...etc..etc. Wii U still lacking major releases.
Even the Wii got COD, although a gimped version. Nintendo software only sells in the tens of millions when the hardware is selling that way. Wii U isn't selling well and that will reflect in software sales. Dont' expect the Wii U versions of Mario Kart, Wii Fit U, Smash Bros...etc to match the Wii versions. Not by a long shot.

I don't see how anyone could deny that Nintendo has the best hardware selling software.

Nobody is denying that, Nintendo still has the largest 1st party franchises. But that alone isn't enough if it doesn't get any serious 3th party support unlike the PS4 and Next Xbox.

I agree, but to say that it won't make a difference is a bit too much.

2 things.

1. when was Metro last light for theWiiU canceled? because that game was announced for WiiU a while ago.

2. Software has alread started to trend the WiiU up. with the realease of Lego City Undergrund (a game you are unimpressed with) and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate WiiU sales have gone up 196%. Now in fairness only time will tell if this trend continues.
