Mario is a hardware selling God.

Ummm... didn't the Wii U launch with a Mario title?  And not just any Mario title, but a 2D installment?

So if Mario is a hardware selling God, and the Wii U received the latest 2D installment in the best selling franchise of all time, then why have the Wii U's sales been in the toilet since pretty much the end of the holidays last year?

2D mario isn't a system seller. Put it like this. Nobody buys a wii u for NSMB but When you have a Wii U you buy NSMB (meaning its a game everybody adds to their library when they get a wii u)

O'RLY???

Tell that to the NES, SNES, GB, GBA, DS, and the Wii from 2009 and on (it replaced Wii Sports as the default pack-in Wii game) then.

And I love how you say nobody buys a Wii U for NSMB, but then go on to say everybody who has a Wii U buys NSMB.

Since those consoles, players have learned from experience that the "new" super mario bros series isn't the recapturing of the 8-bit and 16-bit games they hoped for, and its appeal has shifted more to parents buying for their kids than the "core." The "core" don't want to buy a game for their next gen system that seems to be a HD Wii game, it feels lazy to them. The audience who doesn't care about this isn't buying cos they won't blow $350 on a console when they can get a 360 for $99.

Honestly, the only games I think are console sellers is Mario and Halo.

Wii was successful because of its appeal.

PS1 was a success because of its massive library and cheap games.

PS2 continued the trend.

I make bad threads.

SSB really went downhill after Melee....

a 3D mario is more the system seller, also you mention 2d mario games in the 90s (except NSMB of course). Anyway if you think about it for a sec, wat i was referring to was that some people wont spend $300+ and $60 to play NSMBU! Butttttt People that have a WiiU will get NSMBU to add to their library. Get me?

Sales say otherwise... http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=&publisher=1167&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

Look how far down that list you have to go till you get to the first 3D Mario title, SM64.

And I said DS and Wii, both of which had a 2D NSMB title on them which helped them sell extremely well.  DS didn't take off in popularity and sales until NSMB hit in '06, and NSMB singlehandedly kept the Wii selling from 2009 on after the novelty of Wii Sports had worn off.

The Wii U is out of the price range of NSMB's prime audience; parents buying for their kids. And almost nobody buys a console for just ONE game.

You sure about that?

That was 7/12 years ago, and only because they brought in new audiences. With the vast majority of sysem sellers (and even with these two to a degee) there have to be other desirable games on the platform AS WELL AS the system seller. Wii U doesn't have a desierable libary to back up NSMBU yet.

I'm not arguing whether or not the Wii U has a desirable library (it doesn't), I was merely pointing out that people have in the past and will continue in the future to buy a gaming console for one game.  Games that have done so in the past for their respective consoles are the original Super Mario Bros, Sonic 1 + 2, Mario 64, Halo, SSBM, and Wii Sports.

i kno wat you mean, ok here is an example ⇒ Areyou going to buy an iphone/ipad for Angry Birds? Hell No! If you have an iphone/ipad will you get angry birds? Most people yes! Now do you get wat im saying lol! I kno people buy a system for 2D mario but the difference as Curl said is its $360+ or $410+! Alot of people wont buy it but they'll pay that price for MKU and SSB4 then will purchased NSMBU as well! Also part of my arguement has proof! Look at the top 75 in US week ending Mar 23rd! NSMBU has went up alot due to others getting wii u for lego city and/or MH3U! Seeeee Now?

Most people don't want to play just one game though, especially when it means buying a $350 system; if the system has no other desirable games, most gamers will be put off. For instance, people wouldn't have rushed out to buy Wiis for NSMBWii if it didn't also offer Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc.

I actually don't care about most of the games you listed. Just because you think they're great doesn't mean the rest of the world does.

I'll buy Wii U solely for the 1st party games.

Yeah... NSMB totally kept the Wii selling single handedly... because Wii Fit Plus didn't sell 20 million copies.  Mario Kart didn't sell 20 million copies since 2009.  Wii Party didn't sell 8 million.  DKC didn't sell almost six million copies... Wii Sports Resort didn't sell 31 million... Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn't sell 7 million... In fact, none of the 38 or so million sellers to come out after 2009 had anything to do with the Wii's success.  Nope.  It was all NSMB.  Nobody cared about anything else for the system.  While we're at it, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart DS, and the DS Lite had nothing to do with the success of the DS.  It was all based on one 2D Mario game.

And the novelty of Wii Sports was soooooo worn out after 2009 that Wii Sports Resort only sold 31 million copies (more than NSMB).

But lets just pretend that NSMB was the only game that people considered when they purchased the Wii, because that will allow us to continue on the ridiculous claim that goes something like "OMG 10 MILLION PEOPLE DIDN'T GO OUT AND BY A WII U WITH NSMBU DAY ONE AND NOONE BUYS NINTENDO STUFF FOR ANYTHING BUT 2D MARIO SO NINTENDO IS DOOMED!"
