Forums - Gaming - What Determines a Console Will be a Success?

NOT strong message to consumers, because that just builds up fluff (hollow hype) like PS Vita.

You need 1 of 2 things:

1) a much more interactive video game experience that's logically reasonable for people to play like so for its kind of further interactive gaming, i.e. Wii & 3DS & Wii U.

 2) out of this world good quality 3rd Party support left & right like crazy........i.e. PS2 & 3DS.

As you can tell, the 3DS has the best of both worlds with an upcoming life time sales ending in 200 million or more

if all you need is 1/2 of the factors, and according to you Wii U has factor 1, why is it struggling immensely.  And I agree 3DS will do great,  but 200 million Lol

Games.. and price.

For a console to be successful it needs: great pricing and good software support. That's the bare minimum. But there is no guarantee it WILL be successful

the main reason of a consoles success is if the consoles fan base manages to win arguments about which is the better system on gaming forums. fanboys on gaming forums are the number 1 reason a console is successful.
everytime a fanboy wins an argument or trolls a system, somebody else buys his system of choice

THIS.

lol

Bananaking21 made my day with that one!

Good indicators that a console will be a success are:

No hardware flaws, such as faulty processors, being a hardware addon, unnessecary difficulty of programming, etc.

Acceptable price level.

Breadth of game library. (How many genres are adequately represented on the system)

Killer apps. (Games that become so popular, that people buy the system in droves for them, like Sonic 2, Halo, Tetris, Super Mario Bros or Wii Sports)

honestly, that really doesnt matter much. look at the ps2, a bitch to develop for. ps vita, one of the easiest consoles to develop for. now look at the sales.

If that was true, then the PS Vita would have outsold the 3DS with the 3DS struggling in sales in first 1 month & first 6 month & first 12 month & etc. sales.

a console that creates the most buzz with it's features

Price
Marketing
Delivering value

Thats really it but finding the right price, marketing strategy and how to continue to deliver value is really tough. It also helps a lot if a competitor screws up any one of these three things.

Both price & marketing are proven False factors.

The PS2 sold at $300 and well at that.

The 3DS took 1 month to sale more then 3 million at $250, and the only reason the price drop was because of "Stolk Holders" and no other reason. The PSP sold far less better at $250.

Delivering value is the only accurate thing there..........i.e. PS2 & 3DS.

3D TVs have also sold more then HD TV for:

1st year sales

2nd year sales

3rd year sales

You get the idea.

i swear I'll never understand why 3D TV is so popular
