Forums - Microsoft - NeXbox Always connected = Sleep Mode

i just don't understand why it's such a huge thing for many, some of the guys are steam users who already have all their games on hdd, are already always online, never sell their used games and whatever. so, even if everything of the rumours is true i don't really believe that it will affect all of those who complain so much about it.

The biggest game installs on ps3 are 4 or 5 gb, most a lot less. It's a waste of space to put everything on the hdd.

I agree with most of what you were posting. Just wanted to point out that I have seen at least a couple PS3 games have 10+GB installs, and several that were over 5+GB.

Either way, fully installing a game would be like 20GB per game for a next gen console (I'm guessing here, but Call of Duty games on PC are like 12GB so it could be a tad less than 20GB). If 500GB is the standard HDD size, which it should since that is cheap, that's still room enough for 15-20 active installed games. If you are a hoarder and play older games or game a ton, I'm sure that new feature of playing games while they install would be good if you had to delete some games to make space.

the average wont be that big. Some games will, but not the average game. For comparison my batman arkham city install on my pc is 16.4551 gigabytes, dead space 2 is 9.333008 and LA Noire is 13.59375. Games aren't always huge installs, and memory is cheap. I have a ton of games installed from steam/origin/blizzard and I haven't even filled 1 terabyte yet.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing about the always connected topic. LMAO if it turns out to be true. A lot of people considered this the nail in Xbox's coffin.

the thing is the developer and already do this on their own with or with ms. online pass anyone?

heres the thing no form of activation is full proof. if you dont have online to activate what do you do? phone activation using a id.

so one of the hacking groups will create a keygen lol

Do people think that "always connected" means it wont work if offline? Because that is simply false.

Installs are not new at all and most PS3 games require an install but i guess we are ignoring that. I think what they are trying to do is make it more like PC where you can just click on your games from your hard drive to change games rather than changing discs or possibly quicker load times. That is a good thing and it is interesting that I hear people complaining about that when PS3 requires installs and that is only for quicker load times and nothing else. Then you have PC which blocked used game sales a long time ago but we will ignore that too i suppose. Hating on MSFT is the cool thing around here right?

Installs could potentially block used game sales but until that is confirmed I'd say it is best to not jump to any conclusions. I also want to point out that Sony has been pretty shady about the used game sales as well. From what I've understood about PS4 is that they are allowing publishers and developers to choose if they want to block used games. Now if that is true or not I don't know.

These two paragraphs have some issues Jay. To start no one likes the installs on PS3. I guess you ignored that it's one of the biggest complaints people have with the system. Also PS3 only installs a small amount of data, not the whole game. People are worried with nextbox that the HDD will fill up fast.

Blocking used games has more to do with other rumors while this just barely reaffirms its potential. Sony has flat out said millions of times they are not blocking used games. The shady part comes from the fact they won't comment on what third parties do.

The nexbox rumor states that they will also be able to play while the game installs so they can play right away. You can't do that on the ps3, you have to wait for the install. that is where the compliant comes from. So if MS solve that its not an issue. Harddraives will be fine as long as they offer 500 gigs or more. I have all my past and current pc games installed and its only 700 gigs. I think I have over 100 games

None of these Nextbox rumors sound appealing to me. Don't force always online on me. Don't make me install every game to the HDD. Don't stop me from renting or loaning/borrowing games. Don't force me to connect and power a Kinect device I have no intention of using.

Virtually everything rumored for the Nextbox seems very anti-consumer.

Why would they allow you to install the game and play without the disc if they don't plan on making the disc unusable afterwards?
What would you do after installing the game? Naturally you would sell the disc for profit right, simply because you don't need it?
So it must mean 2 things,
1) MS is aggressively allowing used games sales on the 720 which devs and pubs won't go for. Because everybody in their right minds are going to instantly resell the games after they install.
Or
2) MS wont allow that disc to be used on any other 720 after initial install, in an effort to block massive second hand sales. Always connected will allow the system to check any disc inserted into the disc bay, if the disc was already registered on another 720, well guess what, some notice will pop up telling you to unlock this game for $60. Pubs and devs rejoice.

Also their is no way MS is going to sing this from the top of the mountain because they know it is a system killer. This freature won't be reveled until the system is in your house connected to our televisions, a few folks will warn of it, but MS will bind most media outlets to nda to keep this from being uttered until launch.
I expect Sony to pull the same shit.

My 360 and PS3 load up quickly anyway. Touch the button and BAM. If a game requires an install or and update fine. I go grab a coffee or a quick piss and we're back in the game. I can wait 10 seconds on a load screen. No skin of my flute.

In the general scheme of things its actually quite dissapointing that this has become such a big issue. I can see the benefits but I can really wait another few minutes to play a game. But nobody can deny it also has potential to lead onto a sticky topic; neither microsoft or sony want to openly admit to actively working towards restricting used games.

But Its all conjecture. Ill bet my left testicle the system will run without internet connection.
