Forums - Sales - Console market grows 43% in Brazil and reaches R$ 1 billion

Console market: R$1 bi

Game market: R$ 627 mi

GfK attributes this result to the "migration of many consumers to the formal market." So we have less piracy in Brazil now.

I'm happy to see this, because the video game market is getting smaller in North America :(. Good on you Brazil!

Current gen was the best ever in Brazil. Translated games, voices in Brazillian Portuguese. And all retail is much better now, games have a much more important place in stores.

Great news! Price of software is going down here lately so it was expected to see this shift towards official products instead of piracy. It is still very expensive, but now it is much better indeed. On the other side, hardware remains way too expensive.

Is the Brazilian Dollar tied to and equal in value to the US Dollar?

Floating rates. Right now, 1 Us$ dollar equals to R$2,00 (Real - brazilian money).

Come on Brazil buy GOW:Ascension!! I know you love it!! :D

Obligatory

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

great to hear, at least some markets grow which will help he industry these days.

Too bad that we still don´t have an official Nintendo branch in Brazil....we do have two companies that officially represent them in Brazil, but their hability to bring us games for nintendo consoles is kind of limited. It´s a different situation with Sony and Microsoft, who do have branches in Brazil, and for a long time (even before they launched their consoles here officially)

Still, this is a great moment for videogaming in Brazil, it´s not better than the period of 1993-1997 only, when all three big companies (Nintendo, Sega and SNK) had official branches here through partnerships and sometimes we had game launches even before the USA ! Today, we have a lot less piracy and it´s way easier to find original games - they still cost a lot more than in USA/Europe/Japan - in shopping centers and technology stores
