Forums - Gaming - This is big: Unity coming to Sony consoles this year

Unity was developed to run on almost everything that can compute so where is the news? It will be available to other platforms, aswell. Nothing big in here.

is anyone really surprised by this? It's been out for most platforms, it's out for Wii U, so this is expected, no?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Unity is multiplatform and cross platform , when you make a game it will work on any platform, even on a browser, which is why Unity is seriously one of the best things to happen to gaming recently, it puts the high end engines to shame, plus its actually looks good , really good.

Err I wouldn't go that far. But I agree, its awesome.

because its free without any crappy royality afterwards (like Unreal Engine UDK where you have to pay after publishing)  , and is also cross platform unlike most programs, so even if you buy the pro version you're going to use it on everything (if you include the addons) for a long time , and in a matter of fact its cheap $1500 --> $6000 (max) compared to the ridicilous other high end engines.

the difference between free and pro version is that the free version will show a logo of unity while starting the game or a watermark of unity on a browser based game, and to be honest the logo is kind of cool so , even if you have the pro version you shouldn't disable it. (this)

Besides its a pretty good looking program, unlike Unreal Engine (yes I dislike that engine with a passion of a thousand suns)

I can understand the tight budget part but from what I see on the video is that it was already announced to be on PS4/NeXbox/WiiU.  I would consider big like saying the new BF4 is coming to WiiU with full scale multiplayer because that would be surprising.  This is not surprising, it looks meh, and I cant see many people really caring.

The thing is I would have never even asked or be saying any of this if it wasnt for the title saying it is big.  I'd say most people doesnt even know what Unity is. To me this sounds like somebody trying to make something out to be big when in reality it isn't

Why didn't you show off your Bing skills for once and just google (I mean Bing) the exact title?

Because I did not think about it ;)  I didnt think you would take 24 hours to respond either :P

People, I've got a question. This means Unity works in PS4 (So companies can develop games with it) or that common PS4 users have access to the creation tools of Unity?

I'm not a huge Unity fan myself personally. Much prefer more control and writing my own engines if need be. But, this is good news for people who like it. It's not that Unity didn't work for Vita/PS3, etc. before, I believe the news is that it is getting optimizations for Sony platforms, thus making games run faster on those devices with less tweaking from devs.

Unity works with PS4.

Would have been awesome if it gave the creation tools then D: I like messing with engines. I've spent lot of time designing maps with Unreal or...havok I think it was (or Cryengine). Even RPGmaker xD
