Forums - Gaming - Kojima: Fox Engine all about Photorealism

I think that is the point of the bandages... to hide the CG imperfection.

I think it's because he's a character in the game.

Kojima-san twitter.

Currently I'm working on the challenge (which I'm going to announce at GDC) on the production procedure over FOX engine. I strongly believe making the artificial waxwork look real or lively and making real person's expression ASAP over CG share much of common. http://t.co/msbAZ4XLzR

If the guy in the interview is CG I will be very surprised.

If you can can move your upper eyelids independently of your lower ones like Joakim Mogren apparently can I will be even more surprised.

We don't really move our bottom eyelid up, we move out top eyelid all the way down.

What's odd is that he only half moves his eyelid. It's not enough to convince me because it could have been a missed frame or just a muscle twitch.

I've seen a picture of the guy sitting in a chair with a Phantom Pain shirt getting ready for the interview and not only does it look real, it looks like a crappy iPhone picture. If they faked that just to fake the interview I'd have to commend them on a job well done. I've also seen a twitter post by a guy who was there for the interview that says the guy was real and a nice guy.

Photo-realism is overrated.

When you blink or close your eyes, yeah, but not when you wince like that. It looks exceedingly unnatural.

Point is,that is still nowhere near photo realism

Dat CG.

CG! CG! CG! Deal with it non-believers.

+ The upper eyelids only half drop. The attached skin doesn't move at all. (i.e. the eyebrow, the recess below the eyebrow)
+ The lower eyelids simply don't move. I don't know about you, but I can't move my upper eyelids independently of the lower. More-so, when you are shocked or taken aback by something, the natural is to winch/squint.
+ The point of light in his pupil doesn't move in relation to his head movement. In fact it's static within the pupil at all times.
+ The shadows around the bandages on the right of the image are not consistent with the head movement

Joakim's mannerisms were very weird for a guy where he supposedly comes from. Really seems like a Japanese guy in a white guy's body. It was fox engine.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Still not buying it..

It could be CGI on top on Kojima's face (which would be hilarious) but I doubt it.

You are a little indecisive... remember this choice will change your life forever.
