Yep. Nintendo owners are 8 years old kids who are too dumb to know how to use a usb hdd.

Well, I'm 43. I own a Wii and 360. My step-son (12) plays on the 360 and I on the Wii.
To me, the type of games on 360/PS3 - violent, movie-like games that require long play sessions are aimed at the pre-teen market who think anything violent is cool and have endless free time to waste playing games. Of course they aren't old enough to buy these games but it's amazing how many pre-teens have M rated CoD and GTA. My adult children also play 360, but Wii as well. My wife will play Wii occasionally (Just Dance mainly - no Kinect for 360).
I play in 10-30 minutes segments 3-5 times a week. I don't have time for long games, and I don't care about the 'story' in games, I play to play not to watch cut-scenes.
I grew up playing Donkey Kong, Mario, Pac-man, Q-Bert, etc. So I have no adversion to 'cute' characters in games. And based on the success of Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, and their ilk, neither does the vast majority of the world. Frankly it's only the PS360 gamers who (very conveniently) dismiss Mario as too kiddy (and then play Xplosion Man or Little Big Planet). I find this a very immature attitude and frankly tentative to 'sticking their head in the sand' and ignoring the fact their mothers and grandmothers are playing Wii Sports/Wii Fit (because they are little kids?) or nowadays Angry Birds, etc.
On the flip side parents of young kids will always go for Nintendo over MS/Sony (especially this gen) since Nintendo's games are (almost) always kid friendly. But today the trend is to give the kids the old smartphone/tablet to play with when the parents upgrade.

I have seen some people in their teens/early 20's who are fans of an XBox or Playstation say that Nintendo games are for kids, but I don't think that is the view of the general population. It's also definitely not true, as the demographic is pretty similar for all systems. Nintendo tends to have more kids playing, and more older people, while Xbox peaks with above mentioned teens and college kids and PS3 has a mean age slightly older than the 360 but a similar demographic. Wii's mean age is the oldest, but it's just a broader selling system to all ages. My perception among my friends was that kids pick up Nintendo games, old core gamers like me pick up Nintendo games that they've been playing since the 80's, girls like a good round of mario, families have them for the whole group to enjoy. PS360 seemed to be more narrowed to an activity that just the guys did, usually the 16-26 demographic, with some older like me. |
Wrong.

It's for all ages, people who say otherwise are either too "scared" to be seen playing a fun and colourful game, have their own agenda, or are just uninterested in the company so say what the adverts portray to them. |
and i have an 8 year old nephew that is a ps3 gamer and 48 year old work collegue that is a ps360 gamer.
..doesn't mean that from a demographics perspective the ps360 pulls in equally all ages instead of having target markets.
nintendo has a family entertainment persona (disney-esque) that pulls in a lot of adults (parents) and younger children (mostly due to parents buying a product that they feel is more age approriate). ps360 does better in the teen to young adult demographic due to the persona's they worked hard to build.
you can't sit in one thread and say that ps360 games don't appeal to you (too brown/violent/whatever) but nintendo games do and then turn around in the next thread and claim that ps360 games don't appeal to a different audience (else they are "scared"). nintendo is a very different company from MSony and that is exacly why they have different demographics.
nintendo is just for every age, that's so great about them. ninpie loves nintendo and 80 years old like amp like nintendo.
xbox and ps3 are more for the 15-30 years old guys. i think the reason why many older people have also a playstation is more because of the media possibilities and not only for the games.

Absolutely. Excuse me, I need to go shoot up some peeps on Journey, then get in some violent, movie-like action on Unfinished Swan, Gran Turismo, Disgaea 4, and Portal 2.
Ah, the self-serving generalization. Always so much fun.
Personally, I think it's clear that the average user of a Nintendo system is probably younger than the average user of a Sony or Microsoft system. The bigger questions should be, why are some Nintendo fans defensive about that? Why would that be a negative thing? Nintendo themselves targets parents and the ideal of making their games kid-friendly. Is it any wonder that they then attract kids?
As far as the actual range, though, that's probably much the same for all consoles. Parents who play videogames will buy the systems they want to play on, which means that kids can grow up with any of the consoles. Adults will play on whatever attracts them the most and has the genres they like best, which obviously varies greatly. Anyone pretending that they are "more adult" because of the genre they prefer is deluding themselves in a very sad way.

LMFAO!!
Check your sources. First, those studies are from over 5 years ago, before the vast majority of console owners bought their consoles. Second, Sony pegs the average PS3 user at 28. Do you seriouly think the AVERAGE XBox user is in their 40s? Come on man!! Think before you link! That "study" is a joke.

Not really, the Wii has the widest appeal and is suitable for all ages. I'd say the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have the largest appeal between the ages of 10-40, while the Wii has more appeal with ages <10 and >40. The vast majority of adults that own a Wii probably own one because they are parents.
