WiiU has his first million seller. Vita doesn´t

Not exactly an apples and oranges comparison there.

Handhelds typically have a lower attach ratio than consoles. Still, the Vita hasn't had a lot of good sellers, but I think there are a few games that will get there eventually (AC3, CoD, and Uncharted).

Uncharted could be there already. But the PS+ service does "hurt" the sales.

WiiU

So if i'm reading this right..

wiiU is currently leading Vita in 2013  456,165 to 444,423.

Vita is outselling wiiU weekly (in no small part due to the recent price cut): 83,825 to 29,820.

so it is close.  really close.  wiiU has more hardware pushing releases announced for the year.  vita is going to get pricecuts in the non-japan regions.

i'd wager if you plot it out the yearly leader will swap positions a good 2 to 4 times as games, price cuts, and holidays come into play.  but i'd wager that wiiU is in the lead the last day of 2013 due to what i imagine will be a better than vita MoM holiday rise.

I'm certainly going to be interested to see how Nintendo handle Wii-U in the latter half of the year.

I'm honestly not expecting a price cut; it's going to take a lot for Nintendo to convince shareholders to go for it. But I've seen various retailers offering pretty noticeable discounts on the system already. So I kind of feel they almost have to do it.

But there's going to be software. 3DS was pulled up by a combination of software & price cut, so it'll be interesting to follow what software alone can do. If it comes to that.

I also went through to see what effect the 3D Mario and Mario Kart had on the 3DS, as well as the price cut.

3D Mario:

Japan-106% increase
Europe- 62% increase
USA- 35% increase

Mario Kart:

Japan- 77% increase
Europe- 17% increase
America- 34% increase

Price cut:

Japan- 5,146% increase

Europe- 296% increase
America- 301% increase

These games (including Zelda) and price-cuts were well-introduced in order to try and turn the tables with the sales figures. Nintendo seem to be hinting towards a similar (well, identical) scenario for the Wii U, so I don't see why it can't have a similar effect.

Jeebus

misleading stat.  nintendo announced their price cut a month in advance over which the weekly sales droped from over 30k to less than 4k before spiking to 206k.  still an impressive rise at around 600% from the previous weekly average but no where near a "true" 5000% rise.

Wii U for sure.

Without a singe game released in 2013, Wii U kept on par with Vita for 2013 so far. Yes Vita got a price cut in Japan, and will likely get one everywhere else soon, but Wii U kept up with Vita without games, and in a couple weeks it's exclusives will start trickling in.

I mean think about it, Vita has 2, maybe 3 major exclusives, and one multiplatform game for Vita coming in 2013, all from Sony.

Dragon's Crown (Also for PS3)
Killzone Mercenaries
Soul Sacrifice
Tearaway

Wii U has 5 confirmed exclusives, 1 HD remake, and 1 multiplatform game coming, only half of which are Nintendo developed. Plus wii U could have a lot more for fall.

Bayonetta 2
Dragon Quest X
Lego City Stories
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Also for 3DS)
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Wii Fit U

and maybe

Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros 4

Unless a comet hits the Nintendo factory......no wait because Nintendo consoles, like Sony are made at Foxconn.

Unless an isolated fire occurs at Nintendo's factory, and this is stopped before affecting other manufacterers, Wii U will easily outsell the Vita. I would even bet Wii U sells twice as many units as Vita.

Well with the releases of both Mario Kand AND 3D Mario a given this year, I'd say WiiU will definitely come out on top. It's like 3DS in 2011, at the end of the year Nintendo released Mario 3D Land & Kart 7, and the system took off like crazy. They look set to repeat that strategy.

Besides those, WiiU is definitely going to have a lot of other big games coming out this year. Definitely a lot more recognizable big brands than Vita, whichever way you spin it.

Exlusive stuff like WiiFit U, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Dragon Quest 10, Wario Ware, WiiU Party, Lego City, Wonderful 101, and Pokemon Rumble with the NFC thing, are all certainly going to add up to a robust and very attractive library. Add to that multiplats like AC4, Rayman, RE Revelations, Watchogs, Disney Infinity, Skylanders, COD, Just Dance, and a lot of others, plus the inevitable surprises (like whatever Retro's working on), and you have a very attractive system, games-wise.

I also wouldn't count out the possibility of a pricecut in 2013 eventually. They did it with the 3DS, even though that meant the system being sold at a loss for a long time after. Although with PS4/Xbox720 probably being much pricier, WiiU will likely start to look a *lot* more affordable in comparison.

The Vita me thinks. By the way, can someone post the numbers for both so far in 2013?

How many Vita games are coming to NA so far?
