Forums - Microsoft - Gears of War Judgement 79 metacritic so far

off-topic comment:

IGN review pisses me off........Weak Villain, worse boss fight, unrealiable teammate A.I. and still it gets a 9.2? And they treated GOW: Ascension like crap, for having certain "faults" and being more of the same (but ultra refined)

I really hope Ascension can still perform great with all those reviews.

seems like god of war and gears of war will get lower than usual reviews. shame as god of war should be scored more than 80 if we are being fair and im pretty sure the same will apply to gears

Halo 4 sold incredibly well despite some bad reviews (and despite many doubts in this forum) - it is now at 7.91 million units. If GoW has a large fanbase it will sell good (or great, whatever that means).

Subjectivity man lol

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Bioshock should get an easy 90 meta, simply because of it's unique background it's going to get a free pass with most reviewers even if it doesn't change anything and is more of the same,

Not unexpected really. I expect very, very few games this year to pass the 90 barrier. Fire Emblem and RUNNER 2 (Wii U) have done it so far and I thought Tomb Raider might have.

Bioshock has a chance, so does GTA V, TLoU, Pokemon, Wind Waker and 3D Mario if it launches in time.

It's just really series (and generation) fatigure setting in. But it's easy to forget that this is still a mighty fine game reading the reviews, and one which I expect will do really well. 80 is still damn good.

6 reviews?? If it ever gets more it will drop below 90 like the other versions.

Bioshock has a very good chance. I would not bet against it, just look at Bioshock 1 scores. Reviewers are desperate for something new and fresh like this game is looking to be. I don't see Pokemon getting 90+, but GTAV is guaranteed and TLoU almost guaranteed (although it could end up with like 88-92)

Previous Pokemon games have got mid 80s so I can see this one performing better for being new. Bioshock got 96, but the sequel "only" 88 so Id imagine high 80s or 90 for that. Same with TLoU.

So many games this year will get between 80 and 90 it's ridiculous.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

From the quick skim through I did seems like it suffers from the exact same thing GoW:A suffered from: "More of the same." So I say we go to that thread and just copy and pastes everyones comments that said "reviewers are stupid. They complain about games going to far from formula one game and complain about games staying too close to formula others"

It's called:

They Changed It, Now It Sucks

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyChangedItNowItSucks

and

It's the Same, Now It Sucks

The second one really pisses me off because there are some thing that I don't want changed. Halo 4's core gameplay mechanics is one of them. There were reviewers that complained that it plays too much like previous Halo games. That's what I love about Halo. There were also people that complained that the enhancments and additions to Halo 4 changed it too much. But there really did enhance the game. The stuff that was good stayed and the new stuff was good, yet people complained. I swear there are people that will complain about anything.

As for Gears of War Judgement. I'll hold off my, um... judgement untill my preorder copy gets delivered, but I liked the IGN review. IGN had a lot of praise for the game and only some minor negatives. The gave it a 9.2 which is damn good considering it's on three tenths of a point lower than Halo 4.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

So another case of damned you do, damned if you don't.
I'd expect my Gears to play like Gears. While some change would be nice, It's a formula you don't want to mess with. Bringing balance and new modes are what's needed, but the game should still play like Gears.

Since so many sequels are coming out and less and less companys are willing to risk new IPs, I think seeing 90's on gamerankings and metacritic are going to be less and less common. I thought Halo 4 was the best yet and I'd give it a high 9, but a majority of reviewers gave it less because It's too similar to the other Halo games. Well, uh, duh.

It's just that simple.

Great scores for a prequel that is at the end of the generation too.

I wonder if next gen will see a similar type of score during the final wave. I suspect we didn't really see that for the PS2 era due to the generations being shorter. Like imagine if this gen ended at 2010 or 2011: We wouldn't really get any inflation in scores (atleast not as dramatically, sure there are/might be some though).

I love Bulletstorm and I am putting absolutely 0 care into the meta score this game gets. To me its like Call of Duty. Treyarch (imho) put out 3 incredible games that blew away what IW did and because they were the "other guys" their games were consistently rated lower. Same situation here.

However, when I read that the game only has 4 MP maps and a very very short SP.. meh. A short SP is fine, but it needs a strong MP to suffice and 4 maps is terrible. And then they apparently bombard you with ads for the season pass.. I think I am going to wait for a sale on this one.

You get four maps for OverRun, Survival and another four for FFA, Domination.

Yeah 4 for two modes and 4 for traditional online competitive MP. That would be like CoD launching with 4 maps for multiplayer but also 4 zombie maps. Extremely slim pickings. Looks like they also locked a couple maps on the disc and will release them in early April for free to give Maxim Magazine some publicity. And a $20 season pass which opens up some more maps and modes, probably on disc as well.

Just seems really shitty that for a game with such a low amount of content they're taking stuff out and trying to nickel and dime us more. A 6 hour campaign and only 4 maps for competitive MP is terrible. It's something I'd expect out of EA, not Epic and MS. Canceled my pre-order last night when I read about all this stuff on GAF. There should be a good sale soon after launch.
