So yesterday was my birthday, and my fiance' totally suprised me with a Wii U Deluxe and a copy of ZombiU! Pretty awesome of her =)

Got all my Wii files transferred over with a pretty intricate download progress animation of Pikmin carrying files, took a while to download updates etc. Played some Nintendoland with her, which she soon regretted, as I beat her at most of the games (I'm a "learn by beating the master" type trainer ;) )

Played zombiU, didn't like the absolutel lack of a tutorial had to erase the game a few times to just get past the first sequence. After a while of playing it,  I got used to the controls. Bieng a PC+Wii gamer, I am NOT a fan of aiming with a thumbstick. I would have rather had the ability to move the game pad to aim. I feel like thumbpad for aiming is a regressive step in gaming. That said, the game is quite fun after you get the hang of the interfaces. The graphics are pretty impressive for a console game, I'd say equal or better to Lefot for Dead 2 on max settings, which is an accolade frome me.

Blakc Ops 2 might be on the near future list. Any other good reccomendations for games out there in the US shops?

Bold: agreed.

Italic: New Super Mario Bros U, Trine 2: Director's Cut, (eshop) and in a few days, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, LEGO City Undercover, and Need for Speed Most Wanted U.

Hahaha you're a noob with double analogue sticks ;)

To be fair, duel analog for FPS games sucks. Not saying that as an "Elitist" gamer, just from my personal experience it sucks. Mouse and Keyboard work much better, and personally I found that the Wiimote/Nunchuk setup worked the best, simply because it FELT better "aiming" at the screen. At least that was my experience with games like Metroid Prime 3, The Conduit and Red Steel 2.

So hopefully, for FPS games for Wii U, developers keep in mind that the Wiimote is still fully an option, and include that as a control option for gamers who prefer it.

Agreed.

Both mouse + keyboard and Wiimote + nunchuk leave dual analogue for dead in FPS games. Going back to Halo after playing Metroid Prime 3 felt like using a wooden ship's helm to steer an F16.

Happy Birthday Raze

i got mine from my girl for bday too. Its great having your bday near a system launch. I recommend Darksiders II. If you like action and solid art, you won't be sorry. Its the best game i have played since bayonetta. ZombiU had a learning curve. I suggest waiting to play it when the time feels right. I didn't get into it at first but when i did I played it exclusively till completion. It'll make you sweat. But seriously, I would get darksiders, I can see why thq was betting everything on it. Its that good, ppl just don't know. I'll see if I can find my nin net id and pass it along. Enjoy that sucker, congrats!

Thumb sticks aren't obsolete, they are the ONLY decent way to control movement in a video game. WASD just doesn't cut it.

Hmm.........NO, I have played with joysticks in the N64/PS2/GC/etc. and I can honestly say after getting the 3DS that Motion Sensors are more better for aiming which I tried both the analog & Motion sensors in these games:

Resident Evil: Revelations (the 2nd of 3 3DS exclusively made RE games)

Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D

Kid Icarus: Uprising (I used both analog & touch screen to aim in Chapter 25 and even the Resistive Touch Screen was better)

In the first 2 examples it was much better to use Motion Sensors to aim, easily much more better. And the 3rd example showed how Resistive Touch Screens is even more better then analog to aim)

So analog controls are losing there way with such limited uses, but at least the Circle Pad is 5 times better then Joysticks.

But Circle Pad seems to be the best for racing.

y recomend darksiders 2, i know its old but the gamePad made me enjoy the game more than the PS360 version.

if you play with your fiance NSMBU its a great choice.

trine 2

Trine 2

Here is a list of games worth getting (if you have not played them on another setup... why buy twice):

COD: Black Opps 2 : looks great on the WiiU
Trine 2
AC3: one issue with some shadows otherwise great
and I did not know whether I would like this but I was pleasantly surprised by
Ninja Gaiden : Its a fighting game, but with a story attached

I also have:
Just Dance 4, Little Inferno, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Super Mario, Sonic Racing All stars
But they are mainly for the wife and daughter.
