A lot of games have sadly been mainstreamed... But there still are those that keep up with the old ones. Dark souls and donkey kong country returns are examples.

does'nt bother me in the slightest. I always put it on the easy mode,if the game has it. I'm not looking for a challenge,I'm just all about the experience. I simply don't have time to spend hours and hours on a hard as hell game. Back in the day, games were way more challenging, and I always had it on the normal mode. I had more time for games though.
I think a lot of developers now are looking for the sweet spot of making a game easy to attract more people, but making it seem like it you accomplished something really challenging.
I remember when the original Halo was released on the Xbox, me and all my friends were having a pissing contest about how bad ass we were at the game, not realizing that the auto aim and sticky reticle really helped us more than we even realized. So when we put ourselves on the same team the assists don't work and we would just run out of bullets cause you can't react properly with a controller, even with the slow pace of Halo movements.
Most people don't even realize there are little assists in games, especially console shooters.
Of course, and that is a good thing!
I wouldn't be playing or buying any games if it was otherwise.
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I'm currently playing Darksiders on max difficulty, and there's only one moment where I was stuck. The game feels like normal mode... -_- But overall I disagree, take God of war or Killzone on max difficulty, you're gonna have a bad time...

| kain_kusanagi said: I used to think that Halo was challenging on normal. Actually I still consider Halo 2's Normal mode pretty hard. Anyway, now Heroic is what I play Halo on, but I still consider Legendary a little more frustrating than fun. If I ever get so good at Halo that Legendary becomes a walk in the park I won't blame the devs for making the games too easy. I'll just know that I've gotten so good that I've outgrown standard and advanced difficulty. Let me put it this way. Most people consider Pac-Man a very challenging game. Very few people have ever even seen it's kill screen. Even fewer have been able to master Pac-Man and play a perfect game. As a quarter munching arcade game it makes sense to make a game so difficult almost nobody will finish it. But home gaming isn't about sucking up quarters. It's about entertaining people. If COD or Halo were so hard that nobody could get past the third level without dedicating hours of training a day people would just quit. Only people with dedication like Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell would ever see the end of them. People looking for entertainment aren't looking for frustration. Devs have to makes games for the middle ground. We are lucky they give us the option for harder difficulties. I have no idea why Assassin's Creed doesn't give difficult options. That is a failure on their part. But most games have very hard difficulty settings that challenge most advanced players. If you really are unchallenged by the hardest settings on games like COD and Halo then maybe you are just too good for your own good. Devs don't make games for the best of the best of the best. They makes games for regular people and try to accommodate for those who want it a little easier or harder. You maybe just be in the minority outlier group of extreme advanced players that can't be served by regular games. |
im pretty sure if i played halo on the settings you are playing it on ill get my ass kicked lol. because from what i see that you LOVE halo and you play it a lot, yet you still have diffeculty to master. and thats what i really want, for games to be challanging enough when i first play it but no way frustrating and thats what i really want. i hate it when a game is frustrating so its not really want i want, i just dont want things to be a walk in a park. i want the normal mode to actually be normal, and hard more to actually be hard, you know?
@bolded- haha im flattered but that is in no way true, not even close
im generally good at shooters but not those extreme advanced players

im playing god of war ascension on had mode, while i agree the previous god of war games were a tough son of a bitch on hard, ascension seems to be toned down
