Forums - Nintendo - Eternal Darkness trademarked

Is this the game where you timetravel and get to relive your life as a Roman soldier and a magician in ancient Egypt and stuff?

Around the Network

Didnt know the game is OWNED by Nintendo.

Good news (to me)

I thought this game was pretty good not the masterpiece people call it but i would like to see a sequel.

Eternal Darkness is greatly overrated for the sole reason that it was an M-rated IP exclusive to a Nintendo system. I question how many of the people who say that they really liked it actually played through the game three times to see the true ending. Because if they did, they would have realized that the game has some glaring flaws.

It's not an IP that is worth continuing. Also, its story doesn't allow for a real sequel, just a new game that reuses ideas like the sanity meter. A new game might as well get an entirely new name altogether, because Eternal Darkness isn't a valuable brandname.

Of course they could make a sequel, it might not have anything to do with the story or characters directly involved in the first game but it could easily be done. And I do agree with you, Eternal Darkness was not a perfect game or extremely great game but it had potential some brilliant moments that make it memorable.

Honest, I wouldn't let Silicon knights near a sequel or remake, because it seems the teams behind the original game are either gone or lost their mojo. But a remake (I'd prefer a sequel) by one of Nintendo's talented 2nd party developers (Retro) or 3rd party partners would be a epic game for either the 3DS or Wii U.

As I said in another post, to give this game to retro is a very bad decission. Retro is in many gamers views the prime card to nintendo, and they should only work on rather large series, important nintendo franchises or completely new ip's. To give them such a small title (sales wise) would be a dumb decission.

Retro while they have good street credit among Nintendo die hards for their work on the Metriod Prime games and DKCR, aren't exactly the biggest or most important development house under Nintendo yet. Besides, I'd wager a few of those working there would love to take a chance at a potentially story rich 3rd person action title like Eternal Darkness where they can try to out do some of the others out there on the market like Tomb Raider or Uncharted. Not to mention the relative freedom the IP would have besides tying everything to characters to Lovecraft horror and a sanity mirror.

Why let the idea of the IP's relative obscurity hold it back, if that was the case getting Sakurai to work on Kid Icarus Uprising or before even that the first Smash Bros were mistakes.

It would be awesome if a new Eternal Darkness game would come out, but I don't know if there will be a new one.

It would be good to see Nintendo putting some horror on its first parties.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

No.

If anything, this is to further prevent Silicon Knights from developing a terrible, not Nintendo-sanctioned successor.

Eternal Darkness U?..YES PLEASE!!!

nintendo.... i've been waiting patiently for this. If this actually happens i hope it's with a new main protagonist and alexandra has become a new chapter in the roivas book. that would make it easy for newcomers to jump into the series and still let fans of the original bask in some nostalgia. I'm pretty sure this has happened with this title before though, so i won't get my hopes up. In fact, in makes me nervous to some degree because occassionally i get excited over a rumor like this and it ends up the title in question is just a remake or even worse (for me) ends up on a handheld system. here's hopin though

So a new game incoming? I would love to try out a game in that series.

Isn't there only one game in the series?

Yes, only one on the gamecube.
